Non-free image overuse: collage of 9 screenshots from a single music video, none of them individually the object of significant commentary. Blatant failure of NFCC#3 and #8. Fut.Perf. ☼ 21:57, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non free image uploaded as a "source" to support an WP:OR claim. Fair use does not support such uses. Яehevkor ✉ 22:47, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Here is my proposed edit. I have further adjusted it to ensure there is absolutely nothing that can be construed as "original research". I would be happy to include only the text in the Inception article, but I thought it necessary to have a picture in order to ensure that it is not ninja-deleted within a matter of seconds, which happened exactly as I predicted. You invited me to take the discussion about my text to the article's Talk page, and before I was able to do so you have already asked for the image to be deleted before any "talking" can be done. Nalorcs (talk) 23:45, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I believe our problem here is compounded of several things:
- You're under the impression that I'm attempting to use this image as a justification in and of itself for the accompanying text, but I'm not. Rather, I created the image to demonstrate to the reader that the wedding ring really does appear or disappear based on whether Cobb is dreaming or not. When I first heard this, I concluded it was a false rumor because it's almost impossible to catch the scene at the end where his left hand is showing. I also thought the image would serve to protect the text from being immediately deleted by someone for this reason.
- You said that my text isn't acceptable because it's not sourced. When I inquired (half joking) as to why the Plot section isn't sourced then, you stated that plot summaries don't need a source. But the reason I didn't place my text in the Plot summary in the first place is that there's a note in the page's code which specifically asks that plot details relating to the ending should go in their own section. The only conclusion I can logically draw from this is that the ending section should be considered as part of the plot section, and therefore should exist within the same rules - where simple demonstrable reality isn't considered up for debate.
- You feel that the image does not qualify as non-free fair-use under Wikipedia's guidelines. I have examined the relevant guidelines in detail ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NFC , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_use_policy ) and the only problem I could find was that I didn't include the approximate timestamps where the crops were taken from. However, this is such a common problem that I doubt it was the entire reason you managed to mark it for deletion only seconds after it was uploaded. I corrected this ommision however, so the only reason it might now be considered to be inappropriate is that you've deleted the text it was meant to accompany and so it goes without saying that it's not being used anywhere at this time - something I'd like to rectify as soon as you'll permit.
- You feel that my proposed edit isn't encyclopedic content on the basis that it's only speculation. I can see how my original text could be perceived that way so I have now adjusted my proposal such that it only states simply-worded facts, so please have a look at it again and let me know what your thoughts are.
