The source and license tag don't really sync up here; if it's the uploader's own work, why is it tagged as its copyright having been expired? It's certainly possible that the uploader took the image in Iran at least 30 years ago, but the image could use some clarification if that is the case. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 01:32, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  - I'm not entirely sure about how the PD-Iran license works and the tag isn't really clear, so I won't withdraw this request at this time, to allow other people to have a chance to comment on it and maybe provide further clarification.     - Yep, copyright in Iran lasts 30 years from "publication or presentation" for photographs, so this is PD in Iran. And all Iranian works are PD in the U.S., so no problems. – Quadell ^(talk) 01:01, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I feel that this image fails WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#8 as multiple non-free images are used where one would suffice, the image does not add significantly to readers' understanding of the article, and its omission would not be detrimental to that understanding. Non-free image used in two articles without any commentary. We already are using the historic File:Kent State massacre.jpg, so I don't understand why we need a second photo of the same event, but from a different angle. howcheng {chat} 16:11, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why not? It better illustrates the event and doesn't detract from the article. It's an extremely historically important event and most people know it from just one photo. I think many, myself included, will find this photo from a second angle, which remains widely unseen, to be interesting and valid. Would you oppose adding photographs taken from different angles of other extremely historical events that were documented poorly, such as the JFK assassination? I would also like to point out that the article on Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima contains multiple angles of the event as well as a video of it. Also, the article on Florence Owens Thompson (also known as the "Migrant Mother") contains a whopping 5 other angles along with the original historical photo. The second angle of the Iwo Jima flag raising was taken by a Army photographer and thus is public domain. Migrant Mother was taken by Dorothea Lange, who was working for the Farm Security Administration at the time, thus also public domain. That's why we can have all those additional angles. Looks like it's gone then. I guess I'd just like to point out that when I uploaded the image way back in November, my edit summary read: "I bet you anything this image gets deleted for some "fair use" reason or something". Too predictable. Why does anyone even bother uploading any images anymore? Wikipedia takes itself so seriously sometimes. Goofy rules like this are why we can't have nice things.
