- Delete I changed the copyright tag from "PD-self" to "non-free stamp" for this Indian stamp which is copyright for 60 years. It fails WP:NFC#Images #3 because it is being used to illustrate the topic shown on the stamp and fails WP:NFCC#8 because the stamp's existence and its purpose are perfectly well explained in prose without the necessity of using a non-free image especially without any commentary about the stamp itself. ww2censor (talk) 05:55, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Speedy deleted as WP:CSD#F5 as image is now orphaned as a much smaller version (~6.5% of original) has been substituted. -- Avi (talk) 07:17, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- File:Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the World without Zionism Conference.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs) - uploaded by Avraham (notify | contribs).
- Associated press image simply used to show that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended a conference. Not only is this a press image (which they made for sale so this image breaches WP:NFCC#2) but it adds little to the article that could not be described with text alone, and so fails WP:NFCC#1 Peripitus (Talk) 06:22, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep - necessary to portray Ahmadinejad's attitude toward Jews. This couldn't be shown in a clearer way. --William S. Saturn (talk) 06:25, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- No, it shows his attitude towards Zionism. Ahnadinejad, for one, is aware of the distinction. RolandR 10:03, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- That is part of the matter discussed in that article, making the picture even more appropriate. Thank you for that, Roland. -- Avi (talk) 15:02, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Uniquely historical photo that is appropriate fair use in the article specifically discussing Ahmadinejad and Israel (the focus of Zionism). -- Avi (talk) 06:39, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]- I think the smaller image from the Guardian (see http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2006/jun/27/iran.ewenmacaskill) may be a different story, but after further review, the full picture likely does interfere with the AP's ability to sell their photo, and I now concur that I should not have uploaded the full image so Delete. As for the smaller image, I think there is a good fair use case in the article that discusses MA and Zionism/Israel, but that is for another time. -- Avi (talk) 01:37, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete - Photo has just been uploaded this morning by User:Avraham (Avi) and he has been pasting it onto Ahmadinejad's articles replacing the picture of Ahmadinejad warmly meeting with Jews [and he has bad-faith nominated it below]. Extremist PR war behaviour. Bad faith contributor. Izzedine 07:41, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- delete unverifiable source (probably a WP:NFCC#2 violation) and unnecessary image since no relevant information that isn't already in the text is contained in this picture. Pure copyright-violating decoration. --Damiens.rf 13:46, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Source is well known AP photo. This is a fair use claim. -- Avi (talk) 16:24, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- This is not a valid source information. A link (or some other verifiable evidence) should be added to the image page. And in any case, I can save you all a lot of time by saying that, regardless of any political discussion and name calling, this image will be deleted as clear case of a WP:NFCC#2 violation. --Damiens.rf 16:34, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Perhaps a cropped view would be better? -- Avi (talk) 16:58, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- How would that change the fact that there's no verifiable source information and that nothing that is shown on the image is necessary for understanding the article? --Damiens.rf 18:17, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Source information for cropped image: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2006/jun/27/iran.ewenmacaskill.
- Enhances understanding by illustrating event which precipitated most of the world reaction to MA vis-a-vis his statements about Israel.
- -- Avi (talk) 18:58, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- "Enhances understanding" is not enough for WP:NFCC#8 compliance. And since the source is a news-source, we now, as predicted, have a WP:NFCC#2 problem. Nuff said. --Damiens.rf 20:22, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Not really, as the revised image (the one from the guardian) is so small as to not affect the marketability of the original AP image. -- Avi (talk) 20:51, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- File:Mahmoud Ahmadinejad greets Jewish rabbis.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs) - uploaded by Jim Fitzgerald (notify | contribs).
- Delete Orphaned fair use image. Image was being used to illustrate issues relating to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Israel, but the pictures depict American and Canadian Rabbis, having no overt relationship to Israel. Therefore, it fails fair-use and should be deleted as a copyright violation. -- Avi (talk) 06:46, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- How do you know these are American and Canadian Rabbis, Avi? It doesn't say so on the image page. My guess would be that they are Neturei Karta rabbis, and therefore anti-Zionist — who could be from any country — in which case this could be a relevant picture in the article. But, not knowing the picture's source, I am unable to confirm this. RolandR 15:30, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Strong Keep - Bad faith nomination. User:Avraham (Avi) is pushing an extremist agenda [check his edits], trying to portray Ahmadinejad as antisemitic. Photo is important to maintaining a balanced environment at a time of extremist PR warring. Viable under fair-use. This image is critical to maintaining a balanced picture of Iranian-Jewish relations. Fair use paranoia shouldn't pander to PR warrers on principle. Ahmadinejad is relentlessly slammed as an "antisemite" by Zionists, and in the interests of neutrality - we mustn't censor this image. Izzedine 07:51, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I invite everyone to check my edits. You can even ask various users such as User:Nishidani, User:Nableezy, User:Tiamut, as to whether or not I try and balance opinion and fairness :) Perhaps an analysis of Izzedine's own edits may prove more enlightening. -- Avi (talk) 15:00, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Holocaust denial is not anti-semitic? Either Izzedine has a false understanding of Ahmadinejad's views or anti-semitism itself. The fact that Ahmadinejad is anti-semitic is not extremist, it's verified fact. --William S. Saturn (talk) 19:27, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete - Being Jewish is not synonymous with being Israeli and vice-versa; if the photo is being used to illustrate Ahmadinejad and his relationship with Israel, yet its subjects are American and Canadian Rabbis, then the article is being mis-applied and violates the fair-use claim. --nsaum75 ¡שיחת! 09:15, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Of course it is. Israel is "the Jewish" state, and anti-Israelism is always framed and twisted into "antisemitism". Denying that is insulting peoples' intelligence. No violation of fair-use. Izzedine 10:07, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm sure Israeli Arabs and Israeli Christians would disagree with that assertion that being Jewish is synonymous with being Israeli. In any case, the photo is in violation of its fair-use claim specific to its current use in the articles mentioned; and please keep in mind WP:AGF when making comments with regards to other established editors. Cheers! --nsaum75 ¡שיחת! 10:36, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- The official Israeli/Zionist position is founded on "Israel is the Jewish state". That's why they reject a one-state solution and deny the Palestinians a right of return - while encouraging Jewish immigration. The photos usage/captioning can easily be adjusted. Izzedine 10:59, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Israel is much more closely associated with Zionism than Canadian Rabbis. If we are going to apply th efair use doctrine, it must be to the image whose relationship is most defensible to the article. -- Avi (talk) 14:58, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep The picture shows what it describes, and no reference is made to Israel. The arguments above relate to where it is used in Wikipedia, not to its intrinsic value. As such, they are not valid arguments for deletion. An editor who believes that an image is incorrectly used in an article should take this up in the article talk page, not attempt to have the image deleted. RolandR 10:01, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Roland, the problem is that this is a copyrighted image and thus we need a valid fair-use reason to keep it. Having it in the article which discusses MA and Israel is not a valid reason, as you yourself say, it has nothing to do with Israel. Since it is a copyrighted image with no fair use reason, you yourself make the case for hy this has to be deleted :) . The other picture has much more relationship with Israel, and thus a valid fair use rationale. -- Avi (talk) 16:53, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete - we already have a free image of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the differences between that image, and this one, can be adequately described with some text. The loss of this image and replacement with text will not significantly harm reader's understanding of the subject. This image fails WP:NFCC#1 as replaceable with free content, WP:NFCC#8 in that it does not significantly increase reader's understanding and its removal will not significantly harm that understanding. This deletion debate is NOT the place for a religious, political or any debate except one on how this image meets, or does not meet, the 10 non-free content criteria - Peripitus (Talk) 12:32, 16 December 2009 (UTC) Also this image is a nicked press image { (c) Associated Press /Hasan Sarbakhshian } and its use here replaces the income earning use the creator intended...so the image fails WP:NFCC#2 - Peripitus (Talk) 12:34, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- This image is critical to maintaining a balanced picture of Iranian-Jewish relations and the nomination was evidently in bad-faith (see above). Fair use paranoia shouldn't pander to PR warrers on principle. Ahmadinejad is relentlessly slammed as an "antisemite" by Zionists, and in the interests of neutrality - we mustn't censor this image. Izzedine 13:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- What does this image give me, a reader of the article, that text doesn't. I do not feel passionate, as you clearly do, about the subject. All I see is him warmly greeting some people who appear to be rabbis, and I get no more information than that short piece of text I used to describe the image. - Peripitus (Talk) 21:09, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- delete - unsourced and unnecessary non-free image. All relevant information is already conveyed by text. --Damiens.rf 13:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete - fair use should be used sparingly, only when a picture cannot be replaced by text. What exactly about this picture could not be represented by "Ahmadinejad met with Rabbis from the Canadian Jewish community in Tehran"? nableezy - 01:21, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Delete - Not properly sourced, not needed, not possible to ascertain is they are rabbis or where they are from —Preceding unsigned comment added by Not So Public Property (talk • contribs) 17:58, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Keep - The image bears no relevance to Israel. That's a given. Canadian Jews, nor are any other Jewish groups, are not spokespersons for Israel. Only the government of Israel can speak for itself. Yes, but this particular image is valuable not for reflecting on Israel, but in showing a key insight into Ahmadinejad's thinking. He speaks out against Israel and meets with Jewish rabbis. Whether the meeting was heartfelt or not will always be a matter of speculation, but the hard evidence is that Ahmadinejad acted in a friendly fashion to members of the Jewish faith while simultaneously holding close his sharp criticism of Israel. Everyone knows the relationship between Jews and Israel is a complex one, and this image speaks about how the current president of Iran understands the relation between the Jewish religion and "the Jewish state". Right or wrong, it is his view, and this image is valuable to understanding his beliefs and political motivations.--Abie the Fish Peddler (talk) 02:59, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- As mentioned above; if it were free use, that would be great. However, it is not free use, and as you yourself say, it has very little direct relevance to this article, and so needs to be removed per policy. -- Avi (talk) 03:51, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Actually, Avi, I believe the image in question has more relevance than even the image used for Ahmadinejad's profile photo. I will try to explain in clearer terms my reason for keeping the photo. I think the image makes an important point about Ahmadinejad's much-misconstrued policy towards Jewish people. I think the barrier for your accepting this is that you are conflating the Jewish people with Israel. Though they are related, in a similar way that Native Americans are related to America, they aren't the same thing. As for the photo not being free use, I thought we had already established that. This discussion is about fair use. Why worry?--Abie the Fish Peddler (talk) 05:01, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I believe you juyst made my point for me, Abie:
- The article is about MA and Israel; the photo is not.
- The photo is not free use.
- The presence of the photo does not add anything more to the reader's understanding than a sentence of free text would.
- Ergo, the photo cannot be used in that article and needs to be removed from English Wikipedia as a fair-use violation. -- Avi (talk) 05:29, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oh, brother! You're free to believe whatever you like, but you're obviously not in a listening mode. You're in a proving mode. :-) Remember WP is a fun, learning and sharing experience, not the Nuremberg trials. It may help you, me, and everyone else too, if you choose articles and times to edit when you are able to see things in a NPOV manner. I hope you'll remember also that the truth is greater than either of our versions of it.--Abie the Fish Peddler (talk) 06:00, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- The very length of this polling and the number of comments, I think, is another sign of the significance of the photo.--Abie the Fish Peddler (talk) 06:17, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- File:Office 2010.png (delete | talk | history | logs) - uploaded by User:MisterWiki (notify | contribs).
- This file is violation of Wikipedia Non-Free Content Criterion 3a (Minimal usage. Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information.) Wikipedian MisterWiki (talk · contribs) has uploaded this file in time that an equally-qualifying non-free image, designated File:Word 2010.png, was already present in Wikipedia. Therefore, this file merits deletion. Fleet Command (talk) 14:04, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose: The user that uploaded Word 2010.png did not liked his screenshot, so I took this and I uploaded it. --MisterWiki talk contribs 17:15, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Comment:"Didn't like?" Sorry MisterWiki but that's irrelevant. NFCC clause 3 explicitly states that one of these two images has to go. Now, both images are equally competent for the matter, regardless of whether the uploader or uploaders like or dislike. Your image however, is the one that has violated NFCC clause 3. So, it must go.
On the side note, I'm curious: How exactly did you perceive the dissatisfaction of Tuanese (talk · contribs) or Tyw7 (talk · contribs)?
- Luckily, I was here to see this. I uploaded Word 2010.png. And I never said that I didn't like my screenshot. Tuanese (talk) 18:53, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Unluckily, I was not talking about you Tuanese. In IRC, I talked with Tyw7 (Alias DarkVader2), and I uploaded that version. Also he changed the templates from Word 2010.png to my upload. So, more explanations? --MisterWiki talk contribs 01:26, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- That is irrelevant, MisterWiki. Copyrighted digital properties of other people (be it Microsoft or others) is not to be trifled with — at least not here in Wikipedia — and Microsoft Word is neither a property of yours nor that of Tyw7 (talk · contribs). You have uploaded a second equally-qualifying screenshot while another existed and therefore have violated Wikipedia Non-Free Content Criterion 3a. Hence, the violating image must be deleted, unless you provide a very good reason that it should be kept. Fleet Command (talk) 09:19, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Registering objection: Have you by mistake given input to a wrong nomination? Yes, this image is low resolution but it is a counterpart version of File:Word 2010.png which is uploaded earlier. According to WP:NFCC#3, it must be deleted. Fleet Command (talk) 06:12, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- The HSC INCAT 046 article states that this vessel is in current ferry service in Trinidad. The rationale however states that this is a "deceased ship". It clearly isn't and the image could be replaced. Angus McLellan (Talk) 20:53, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is true the ship is not deceased as such, but it would not be possible to get another photo of this ship with the TT-Line livery, so in that sense the Devil Cat is deceased. I don’t really see why it needs to be deleted, as its been up on wikipedia for some years now. Just my 2c Mbruce (talk) 11:51, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- This non-free image seperately depicting two of the members of the Golden Palominos. Both of the subjects are living people. The usual rationale offered is boilerplate, but this is not a band image but two separate images of living people, both of whom appear to be active musically. Seems to be eminently replaceable. There is already an image of one of the subjects in the article and the other could be photographed as these pictures on Flickr show. Angus McLellan (Talk) 22:02, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
