- Image appears to be part of an advertisement for the 2001 FIRA Women's European Championship. It fails WP:NFCC#8 in that its exclusion from the article would not be detrimental to a reader's understanding. Beyond that, there is no foreseeable use for the image. -FASTILY (TALK) 02:53, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Fails WP:NFCC#8 - Does not significantly increase the readers' understanding of the topics, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding Edgepedia (talk) 16:29, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- It feels like an awful shame to get rid of this. It is a prime example of the advertising campaign and prestige surround this endeavour, essentially it helps put across the company's own public image of the object in question, similar to the now omnipresent but extremely dated poster featuring Lord Kitchener(whom is perhaps better known for that poster than anything else in the public sphere), these kind of frunt running at-the-time posters are often lost, yet thier initial views on a subject can be more telling and valuable as more time goes past, yet they're often lost to time instantly out of a perception that they simply aren't important. A neat, tidy, offical statement on the system by the people who built it, when they built it, seems valuable. I agree, its omission would be detrimental to passing on that understanding, hence why I would put forward that it is to be kept.Kyteto (talk) 19:43, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- As uploader, I agree that it does not significantly increase the reader's understanding, but it is a prime example of how Southeastern is promoting itself via this new train which is receiving national media attention, and it's not something which could be done adequately without the image. I'm willing to concede that it's maybe a little large (I made it 300px wide), but I do think it should be kept. This new service is a big deal for Southeastern and Britain in general - it's the country's first domestic "high speed" train service. -mattbuck (Talk) 15:36, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per nom, it fails to meet the non-free content criteria. An image of a leaflet promoting these services doesn't adequately improve a readers understanding of the subject to merit using non-free content. I'm unconvinced by, for example, the apparent suggestion that the significance of this train service means this leaflet about it is important enough to warrant inclusion in our articles. Kyteto makes a number of suggestions about why this might be valuable but unless this can be supported by reliable sources then I think it would just be a personal opinion of a user and I think we need something more concrete than that. Adambro (talk) 19:05, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- The article subject is the train. An image of an advertisement for the train is not so heavily tied to understanding the train itself that it merits an FU image. ÷seresin 02:52, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Picture was made by a Pacific Northwest National Laboratory employee--the PNNL asserts copyright (see Template talk:PD-USGov-DOE). Image replaceable, and not absolutely necessary for illustration in the PNNL article. Gump Stump (talk) 22:19, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- These images have been deemed necessary by PNNL as representing the work done at the Laboratory. They are used in direct support of the information found in the article. They are not to be deleted. Shanilea (talk) 23:08, 28 August 2009 (UTC)(talk) 16:02 28 August 2009 (PDT)[reply]
- Because the PNNL asserts copyright on their multimedia, this is a non-free image. And since this is just a promotional photo for the lab, I don't think it improves the readers' understanding enough to merit using non-free content. If others disagree, it will at least have to be tagged non-free ({{Non-free promotional}}, probably) and include a fair use rationale. If you represent the lab, Shanilea (you seem to only edit PNNL articles), please take some photos of your own, and upload them with a free license--that would be much preferred! - Gump Stump (talk) 07:19, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. The article is about PNNL, but contrary to what Shanilea seems to think, it is not owned by PNNL. PNNL’s preference for article content does not override Wikipedia policy. The use violates WP:NFCC#1 because a similar photo could be taken and released under a free license serving the same encyclopedic purpose. It also fails WP:NFCC#8 because it does not significantly increase readers’ understanding of the article. If PNNL wants to keep this photo, they could release it under a free license like cc-by-sa as explained at WP:COPYREQ. —teb728 t c 08:30, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
