The result was no consensus. If someone wants to start a merge discussion on that talk page, they can, but I don't think relisting this a second time will accomplish much, but there's only one person arguing a straight delete here, so the odds of this being deleted are very slim. - Queried speedy delete Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:08, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
- This article was speedy-delete-tagged as "The article described a possible future event for the time (in 2009), which never took place - which clearly violates WP:CBALL and WP:NOTNEWS", but many pages link to it, and the process of planning and organizing the march may be notable, although the march did not in the end happen. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:13, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
- Keep That an event was cancelled does not make it non-notable, especially as it was called off so close to it starting. What matter is: was there significant coverage such as would indicate notability of this cancelled event? I find there just about was: 1 2 3. Particularly the cancellation of the event itself was an event so this isn't something that didn't happen. FOARP (talk) 10:00, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
- Keep The article needs to be altered to make it clear that it did not happen, and remove assumptions about the event, such as: "was a non-violent political march", which indicates both that it happened and that when it happened it was non-violent. We know the first didn't happen, and we can't make statements saying that it was peaceful without a special alternate-reality WP:CRYSTALBALL. With that said, the march, it's planning and its cancelation are sufficiently notable for Wikipedia. For instance, this article about it's cancellation[1] -- NoCOBOL (talk) 11:57, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
- Except that HuffPost blog post is NOT a WP:RS. The problem here is neither the plan to hold a march or the cancellation of the plan was widely covered by SECONDARY WP:RS. E.M.Gregory (talk) 20:11, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

- leaning delete for lack of WP:RS, SECONDARY sources. The HuffPost blog post User:NoCOBOL suggest, is, like the Stephen Walt op ed FOARP suggest not WP:SIGCOV. Nothing now on the page seems to be reliable, SECONDARY coverage either. The Al Jazeera article FOARP links to has a sentence on this March. The book FOARP links to is published by [[Verso Press], not by an academic or a mainstream publishing house.E.M.Gregory (talk) 00:25, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
- Comment - in addition to the above the mentioned article is also a clear case of WP:SOAP, trying to promote an event, which in fact never took place and has no notability whatsover. For instance, multiple actual events are not even covered to date, such as 2019 South Syria demonstrations, so the non-existent Gaza Freedom March should be deleted.GreyShark (dibra) 07:21, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
- Isn't that a WP:WAX argument? WP:SOAP isn't, primarily, a delete rationale but a page-quality issue. Events that were cancelled may still be notable, particularly if their cancellation was widely reported. FOARP (talk) 10:02, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
- An attempt to make an article on some Gaza demonstration, which has never taken place, is WP:SOAP. We have enough coverage on Gaza demnstrations in various articles - such as Blockade of the Gaza Strip.GreyShark (dibra) 20:30, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

- An WP:EVENT planned to happen 9 years ago does not have to have actually taken place. It does, however, have to have WP:INDEPTH sourcing, which a BBC news bulletin: Egypt bans a protest march into Gaza] is not. At present, the article is sourced to announcements from various organizations about who intended to attend. A protest rally that never happened would need a WP:HEYMANN of WP:RS text and sourcing meeting WP:EVENTCRITERIA, including WP:EFFECT.E.M.Gregory (talk) 11:07, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
- Merge to
2009 in the Palestinian territories#Events.E.M.Gregory (talk) 11:07, 29 January 2019 (UTC) - Merge to Blockade of the Gaza Strip#Blockade timeline 2007-2010 - the march never got off of the ground and it isn't clear there was any lasting effect - little need for a standalone article based on 2009 news reports and statements.
