The Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility (LCMHF) was built in response to an April 1989 federal court order which directed that the State develop and implement an acceptable long-term plan for mentally ill, protective custody, and high-security inmates. Construction of the 150-bed facility began on the grounds of the Larned State Hospital (LSH) in January 1991, and the facility was dedicated in December of that same year. The facility received its first inmates on January 22, 1992. LCMHF houses the most severely and persistently mentally ill inmates within the Kansas Department of Corrections, along with a significant number of inmates with borderline personality disorders or a conduct disorder which makes them an unacceptable risk for housing in another facility. Fouad Ghanma is one of the Arab World's most intresting youth, at a young age he held positions of power. Serving as the Regional Manager, Middle East & North Africa for the World Economic Forum where he was behind the creation and roll-out of the first ever Arab World Competitiveness Report, the involvement of the goverment of Lebanon and Syria at the WEF which for a very long was boycotted due to the participation of Israel and the Young Arab Leaders Initiative. He also held the position of Regional Director for Middle East & North Africa for the Young Presidents Organisation where he was very succesfull at connecting business and government leaders across the Middle East. Today Fouad Ghanma sits on numerous boards in the Middle East region. Found in Energy Drinks The only Energy Drink with Xi Xian Cao is the Penthouse Clear Energy Drink at a 25mg level. Xi Xian Cao is known as the herb of immortality or the longevity herb. What is Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Xi Xian Cao aka GP/Jiaogulan)? Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Xi Xian Cao aka GP/Jiaogulan) is a plant that grows wild in China, Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia. It belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae (cucumber and melons also belong to this family) with creeping vines. There are 13 varieties under Gynostemma pentaphyllum and China has 11. Among the 11 varieties, 7 of them grow only in China. GP/Jiaogulan grows in the mountainous region. The best quality wild Xi Xian Cao aka GP/Jiaogulan is found in Shanxi, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces. It tastes a little bitter at first but turns to sweet as aftertaste. Commercially farmed Xi Xian Cao aka GP/Jiaogulan is much sweeter than the wild type. Japanese developed a strain of GP/Jiaogulan called "Variety 201", which has a "sweet gene" accentuated during the development of the strain Japanese came to favor. This sweet Gynostemma pentaphyllum is now the primary strain grown commercially in China and Southeast Asia. Why is Gynostemma pentaphyllum called "China's Longevity Herb"? Gynostemma pentaphyllum has been used as a folk herb in the local areas where it grows wildly in the mountainous regions of Southern China. The great census of China conducted in 1970's revealed that in a village near Fanjing Mountain in Guizhou province, many local people were living to 100 years of age. The average life span in that area was much longer than that of the rest population of the country. After extensive research, scientists found the longevity secret lies in Gynostemma pentaphyllum that has been taken as tea by the locals instead of the more common green tea. They would take it before work to increase endurance and strength, and after work to relieve fatigue. It has also been taken for general health and has been recognized as a rejuvenating elixir. People also used it for treating common colds and other infectious diseases. Hence, the locals called Xi Xian Cao aka GP/Jiaogulan "Xian Cao", the "Immortality Herb". GP/Jiaogulan is also sometimes called "Southern Ginseng", since it grows in south central China and is similar to ginseng in chemical composition and function. The locals also describe Xi Xian Cao aka GP/Jiaogulan as "like ginseng but better than ginseng". Modern analysis of the chemical ingredients in GP/Jiaogulan and ginseng proved that Xi Xian Cao aka GP/Jiaogulan has at least three times the varieties of saponins than ginseng. Therefore, Xi Xian Cao aka GP/Jiaogulan is truly superior than ginseng and carry no side effects some people may experience while taking ginseng. Men of Granite: New Hampshire's Soldiers in the Civil War About the Book Men of Granite: New Hampshire’s Soldiers in the Civil War is a new book on New Hampshire’s role in the American Civil War by librarian and military historian Duane E. Shaffer. Published in August 2008 by the University of South Carolina Press, it is a hardcover book with 384 pages, twelve maps and twenty illustrations and photographs. During the Civil War, some thirty-five thousand New Hampshire soldiers--representing approximately 11 percent of the state's population--were dispatched to serve the Union in seventeen infantry regiments, two cavalry regiments, three artillery batteries, and three companies of sharpshooters and as members of miscellaneous naval and marine units. Duane E. Shaffer tells the story of these forces in Men of Granite, a thorough history of New Hampshire combat troops in the years before and during the Civil War. Focusing on the day-to-day experiences of the common soldier and his reasons for taking up the fight against the Confederacy, Shaffer has mined myriad primary sources to draw together the experiences of all of the state's regiments and units into this single, cohesive narrative. Told in chronological order, Shaffer's narrative follows the experiences of New Hampshire troops, primarily in Virginia and South Carolina. Granite State soldiers were stationed at Hilton Head for much of the war, and they offered vivid accounts of bivouac duty and of inland raids in low country South Carolina. The soldiers also fought in major battles such as Manassas, Antietam, Gettysburg, and Cold Harbor. A chapter each is devoted to the Battle of Fredericksburg in December 1862, a fight that included the largest concentration of New Hampshire soldiers in the war, and the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863, in which the Twelfth New Hampshire suffered more casualties than any regiment on either side. Shaffer also details the disaster of the Battle of Fort Wagner in July 1863, in which New Hampshire lost more soldiers than in any other operation. He also follows his subjects' return after the war to recount their homecoming and to cement understanding of their sacrifice. Further enhanced by twenty illustrations and twelve maps, Shaffer's detailed survey reinserts the story of New Hampshire forces into the annals of Civil War history and, through frequent quotation of soldiers' own accounts, gives voice to the motivations and daily experiences of determined Union forces from the Granite State. He has two degrees in history and has published several articles in various military history magazines. He currently lives in Florida and is Head of Collection Development and Adult Programs for the Sanibel Public Library on the island of Sanibel. Florida. When Shaffer was recently asked why Americans need another book on the Civil War, he stated, "The Civil War was the fulcrum of American History. All of the history that happened before was preparation for it and everything that came after it was somehow affected by it. Oceans of ink have been expended on trying to understand how and why it happened. This is a book about New Hampshire and where it fit into the vast tragedy that befell America." Shaffer was also asked what makes this book unique. He answered that, "Men of Granite: New Hampshire's Soldier's in the Civil War fills a gap in the historical literature of New Hampshire. A comprehensive treatment of the subject has not been seen in over one hundred years. New Hampshire contributed to the war and consequently suffered in proportion to the number of men sent from the state." A native of Philadelphia, PA, Stephanie Brown began singing at the age of 2 when her sister would record her singing her favorite song, "Last Dance" by Donna Summer. Her musical talents began to spread outside of her home a few years later when she began singing on the youth choir of her church, the Upper Room Missionary Baptist Church. Over the years, her love for music grew so much that she was hardly ever seen not singing or listening to music; so much so that by the time she reached adolescent years, one of her punishments would be to take the radio away! Eager to learn more about music, she decided to attend the nationally-recognized High School for Creative & Performing Arts (CAPA). Those 4 years exposed her to all types of talents and musical styles under the direction of the late Mr. David King and Mr. Timothy Cormier. Although she majored in Education at West Chester University, she still found time to sing during campus competitions, special occasions, and at church. Today, Stephanie continues to sing as a member of the praise and worship team of the Heart of Worship Restoration Center under the leadership of Pastor Kevin M. Aiken, and you can witness her love for Christ and her testimony through the lyrics and alto tones. God has anointed her to witness to people through song as she uses singing and music to help them learn difficult concepts and skills. So as the curtain rises on such a promising career, one can only wonder how it will all play out for Stephanie and her ministerial pursuits. The stage is now been set. The prayers have been lifted up. The vision has been written, and the plan has been put into motion. And if God be for her, who can really be against her? Stay tuned...
