LigandScout is a software tool that allows to model 3D pharmacophore models from structural data of macromolecule/ligand complexes. It incorporates a complete definition of three-dimensional chemical features (such as hydrogen bond donors, acceptors, lipophilic areas, positively and negatively ionizable chemical groups) that describe the interaction of a bound small organic molecule (ligand) and the surrounding binding site of the macromolecule[1]. These pharmacophores can be overlaid and superimposed using a pattern-matching based alignment algorithm[2] that is solely based on pharmacophoric feature points instead of chemical structure. From such an overlay, shared features can be interpolated to create a so-called "shared-feature pharmacophore" that shares all common interactions of several binding sites/ligands or extended to create a so-called "merged-feature" pharmacophore. The software has been successfully used to predict new lead structures in drug design, e.g. for the prediction of biological activity of novel HIV reverse transcriptase inhibitors[3].

Teaser[edit]Jaclyn used to live with her aunt Greta in Chicago, but she doesn't anymore. They'be moved to a place called Sherpia. It's a tiny village on the edge of the Arctic Circle. Jaclyn can't believe she's stuck out in Nowheresville. No movie theaters. No malls. No nothing. Plus, there's something really odd about the village. At night there are strange howling noises. And in front of every house there's a snowman. A creepy snowman with a red scarf. A deep scar on his face. And a really evil smile... Sources[edit]Beware, The Snowman book by R. L. If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. WikiTrust is a project that seeks to use an automated algorithm to assess the credibility of content on the English-language Wikipedia.[1] It produces a website that mirrors the content of Wikipedia as it existed on February 6, 2007; content that is stable, based on an analysis of article history, is displayed in normal black-on-white type, and content that is not stable is highlighted in varying shades of yellow or orange.[1] Wikipedia and the pitfalls of Web 2.0[edit]Wikipedia is an encyclopædia that allows almost anybody with an Internet connection to add new content or, with some exceptions, to edit existing content.[2][3] This policy of making it easy to add valuable content is, perhaps, paradigmatic of Web 2.0, a trend where much of the content on the Internet is produced by end users instead of by paid editors. It also is responsible, in part, for Wikipedia's having become one of the largest reference websites.[2][3] One of the problems with allowing anybody with an Internet connection to edit pages is, of course, that users can add nonsense.[2] Indeed, it has been said[2] that "an Internet service cannot be considered truly successful until it has attracted spammers." Perhaps more common than spammers, however, What WikiTrust does[edit]WikiTrust is an attempt to "compute Wikipedia's authority" using sophisticated "data mining" algorithms that assess the credibility of editors (users that make changes to Wikipedia content) by tracking their contributions.[7][1] This project is still in a beta test stage,[1][8] and the criticism has been raised[7] that "the software doesn’t really measure trustworthiness, and the danger is that people will trust the software to measure something that it does not." Generally, users whose content persists for a long time without being "reverted" by other editors are deemed more trustworthy by the software.[8][1] This may mean that users who edit controversial articles subject to frequent reversion may be found to be less trustworthy than others.[8] Although the WikiTrust tool may be useful for flagging statements in articles that require closer scrutiny, Wikipedia's general disclaimer reminds us that there is "no guarantee of validity" (original in all caps) for anything on Wikipedia, and thus nothing on the site should be relied on as professional advice,[9] regardless of the output of any verification software or even the consensus of users. Problems with WikiTrust[edit]The web site is only intermittently up and operational. Conclusion[edit]In the words of ACRLog, the blog of the Association of College and Research Librarians, "We can and should make use of machine algorithms to uncover information that we wouldn’t be able to on our own," but "we need to keep our human critical thinking skills activated and engaged."[7] Sources[edit]external links[edit]

Jacob Willekens or Wilckens (1571-1633) was a Dutch admiral and privateer who commanded the different fleets for the Dutch West Indies Company during the 16th and 17th century. His most well-known success was undoubtedly the conquest of San Salvador de Bahia, the then capital of Brazil. His fleet, which included Dutch corsair Piet Hein as vice admiral, departed from Texel on December 22, 1623 with between 26-36 ships and 3,300 sailors towards South America. At the beginning of June 1624, they began their attack from sea and soon captured the Portuguese stronghold with little resistance. They occupied Bahia for over a year before the local population took up arms under acting governor Matias de Albuquerque and Archbishop Dom Marcos Teixeira [1] who eventually expelled them with the help of a combined Spanish-Portuguese fleet numbering 52 warships and 12,000 soldiers [2] in May 1625. [3] This was the first major WIC privateering expedition to the region. [4] He would also participate in an attack on Rio de Janeiro with Hein in 1626, but after a dispute over who would be in command, the two separated with Willekens returning to Amsterdam. After a successful attack on Manilla, Willekens died on Ternate in 1633. References[edit]

Darius Rejali is an Iranian-born political scientist at Reed University, considered to be one of the world's leading experts on techniques of modern torture in the past two centuries. His major previous book is Torture and Modernity: Self, Society and State in Modern Iran, and his many articles include "The Lessons of July 21", "5 Myths about Torture", and "Does Torture Work?". His latest book, Torture and Democracy, is one of the most extensive histories of state torture ever written. In addition to being such a compiliation, he uses the extensive evidence to make several key conclusions:

Sources[edit]Linkology is the study and practice of connecting people through increased awareness of self and others. The emerging science of Linkology had its roots in the teachings of various spiritual orientations throughout the millennium including Hinduism and Buddist teachings. In its rudimentary form, Linkology first emerged and has been spoken about as a fundamental and profound type of connection to each other and to self in the context of others by theologians including Thomas Aquinas. The conceptual framework for this study was furthered by Thaddeus Golas in his 1960's and early 1970's treatise "The Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment". The development of the body of knowledge and the term Linkology was however not developed until the beginning of the 21st century by a human development and group dynamics theoretician and practitioner named Tom Wilkes. 24.9.64.159 (talk) 12:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cheng Chin (c. 1643-1682) was a 17th century Chinese pirate and warlord. He was the eldest son of Cheng Ch'eng-kung and grandson of Cheng Chih-lung. He inheriting both the vast pirate fleet and the throne of Tainan upon the death of his father in June 1662. He intended to continue his fathers plans to invade the Philippines however he was forced to abandon this venture when faced with the threat of a Manchu-Dutch alliance. His victory over a combined Manchu-Dutch fleet in 1664 resulted in ending the brief alliance. Although he continued to fight for the cause his father died for, he had largely abandoned any pretense of restoring the Ming Dynasty by the time he invaded Fukien in 1676. He occupied key cities in the province for a year before loosing them back to the Manchus by the end of 1677. Invading Fukien once more, he led a force of 30,000 men to capture Haicheng as well as taking the provincial commander prisoner. He held his position in for sometime before being driven off the mainland by the Manchu. He retreated to Tainan where he fell ill and died in 1682. [5] References[edit]

If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. Corliss P. Stone was born in Franklin county, Vermont, on the 20th of March, 1838, and was of English lineage, although for many generations representatives of the family had been residents of America, the great-great-great-grandfather having been one of the early colonial settlers of Connecticut, while Benjamin Stone, the grandfather of our subject, served in the Colonial army during the war of the Revolution. He was identified with the Congregational church in religious faith and lived to the advanced age of eighty-six years. He married a Miss Corliss, a member of the family that became famous as the manufacturers of the Corliss steam engines. James Corliss Stone, the father of our subject, was born in Connecticut and married Miss Charlotte Lathrope, a native of Chelsea, Vermont, and she, too, was of English heritage and a representative of an old Vermont family. She attained the age of sixty-six years, while Mr. Stone reached the venerable age of eighty-four years. For a number of years he held the office of justice of the peace, and his decisions were rendered without partiality or bias. Both Mr. and Mrs. Stone were active and devout members of the Congregational church and their labors contributed to its upbuilding. Their family consisted of three sons and three daughters. Forty years have passed since Corliss P. Stone became a resident of Seattle and in this period he has contributed in large measure to the extension and improvement of the city through his real-estate operations, while his business activity along other lines has promoted commercial prosperity. He arrived here in February, 1862, and through the intervening period has steadily advanced until he now occupies a leading position among the men of prominence here. Corliss P. Stone was educated in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, attending the public schools and the academy there, and entered upon his business career as a clerk in a dry-goods store. Later he engaged in business on his own account for three years before coming to the Pacific coast. He made the voyage around the Horn in the Archer, a clipper ship, which in a gale lost a mast and was in imminent peril, but she stopped for repairs and afterward continued the voyage in safety, casting anchor in the harbor of San Francisco after one hundred and ten days. Mr. Stone had followed Horace Greeley's advice to young men and had come to the west, hoping to find good business opportunities in this section of the country. He possessed a strong body, willing hands and a clear head, but little else to serve him as capital. His first work in Washington was at Port Madison, where he was employed as a salesman in a store for five years. In 1867 he established a store and wholesale business of his own in Seattle he merged with the firm of Hinds, Burnett which became Stone, Burnett. Despite a rash misjudgement he settled his accounts in 1873 he settled his accounts he returned and he conducted a successful business until 1884. He then sold out and became interested in city real estate. Many other enterprises have also claimed his attention and he is widely known as a man of resourceful business ability, who not only has the talent for planning successful enterprises but also the ability to put them into good working order. Corliss Stone became one of the organizers of the Union Electric Company, furnishing light and power for the city, and is now the president of the Cascade Laundry Company, which is doing a large business in the city. He also operated in Seattle real estate platting several additions to the city, the first being in 1884. This was the Lake Union addition, including one hundred and sixty acres of land, on which great improvements have been made. His next was the Edgewater addition of thirty acres, which is also all built up at the present time. He then platted Stone's extension to the same addition, which has also been improved, many fine buildings having been erected there. He later created the C. P. Stone home addition, of twenty acres, adjoining Lake Union. It will thus be seen that he was a prominent factor in the improvement and upbuilding of the city and did his full share toward the promotion of many movements which have contributed to the public welfare aside from his individual interests. In 1864 Mr. Stone was married to Clara Boyd, and unto them were born two children, but only one is now living, Corliss L., who is now in the office of his father, and is a young man of excellent business ability. In politics he has been a lifelong Republican and had the honor of being elected mayor of the city in 1872. In February of 1873 he withdrew the liquid assets of the firm of Stone, Burnett without authorization and persued his lover to the City of San Francisco which triggered an investigation and a court case. He was ethical enough however to return recompensate his former partner Charles Hiram Burnett Sr.and resume business. In 1874 Mr. Stone was again married, his second union being with the former Mrs. Almira L. Crossman, a native of Montreal, Canada. He exercised his official prerogatives for the improvement and substantial progress of Seattle and has labored earnestly for the advancement of this part of the state. Regarded as a citizen and in his social relations, he belongs to that public-spirited, useful and helpful class of men whose ambitions and desires are centered and directed in those channels through which flow the greatest and most permanent good to the greatest number. Submitted to the Washington Biographies Project in February 2008 by Diana Smith. Submitter has no additional information about the person(s) or family mentioned above. As he grew up into a well educated family, with his father being a qualified doctor, he decided he wanted to study medecine and find out more about how the body works. But he chose a very odd subjects to study. Professor Poofenstein once said 'If no one else wants to do it, then I will!'. He decided he wanted to study the human digestive system and feaces. This interested him, as he found the smell of human feaces quite nice, and enjoyed feeling feaces because he said 'the texture is very enjoyable to feel, almost better than sex!' He was a very famous Professor in the South West, and whenever anyone needed to enquire about there dollops, he would be the first person to be seen. Unfortunatley Professor Poofenstein in June 2007, because after a postmortmem, they found had digested several extracts of human feaces.
