Antoine Carre (fl. 1786-1808) was an 18th century French explorer and fur trader. After marring the daughter of an Ottawa chieftain, he himself became founder and leader of the Bear River Ottawas during the mid-1700s as Neaatooshing (or Nee-i-too-shing). His son Chief Petosegay and grandson Ignatius Petoskey were prominent Ottawa leaders throughout the 19th century, the land of the Bear River Ottawas being the site of the present day town Petoskey, Michigan. Biography[edit]A Frenchman reportedly of aristocratic origins, Carre arrived from France sometime during the 1770s or early 1780s according to traditional accounts. While working as a fur trader for the John Jacob Astor Fur Company, he explored much of northern Illinois and Michigan living among the local tribes. He eventually married the daughter of an Ottawa chieftain and, adopted by the tribe, Carre was given the name Neaatooshing. During the late 1780s, he founded his own tribe along the Bear River. His lodge was established about seven miles northwest of Harbor Springs, near Middle Village. [1] After spending the winter in wat is now Chicago, he and members of his tribe were traveling along north along the Kalamazoo River during the spring of 1787 when his wife gave birth to their son near the mouth of Manistee. His father, according to local legend, held him up to the rising sun and said "his name shall be Petosegay and he shall become an important person". [2] [3] [4] [5] He was a representative and signatory for many of the treaties signed between the Ottawa and the United States. Following his death, his son, Ignatius Petoskey succeeded him as chieftain and head of the Bear River Ottawas. [6] References[edit]

Levi Todd (d. 1807) was an 18th century American pioneer who, with his brothers John and Robert Todd, helped found present-day Lexington, Kentucky and were leading prominent landowners and statemen in the state of Kentucky prior to its admission into the United States in 1792. Of his ten children, his son Robert S. Todd was the longtime clerk of the Kentucky House of Representitives and a later representitive of Fayette County while his daughter Elizabeth married Charles Carr, the son of Kentucky statesman Walter Carr. He was also the grandfather of Mary Todd Lincoln, the later wife of President Abraham Lincoln. Biography[edit]The youngest son of David Todd and Hannah Owens, he and his brothers arrived in Kentucky in the summer of 1775 to establish the settlement of Lexington, named for the Battle of Lexington which had occured earlier that year. All three had fought in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War under General George Rogers Clark during the western campaign and was present at the capture of Kankansia in 1778. He was also part of the detachment that captured British General Philippe-François de Rastel de Rocheblave and escorted as a prisoner-of-war to Virginia. [1] Following the war, he and his brothers returned to the settlement to encourage other pioneers to settle in Lexington as well as defend against occasional indian attacks. He married his first wife, Jane Briggs, at St. Asaphs Fort in Lincoln County on February 25, 1779 and had eleven children together. [2] During this time, Todd became a farmer as well opening a successful law practice. He accumulated large amounts of land which he bought cheap land strips from veterans recieved in lieu of payment by the federal government. His small farm eventually grew to a plantation covering three counties. In 1780, he was appointed court clerk of Fayette County by Governor Isaac Shelby. For twenty-seven year until his death in 1807, he was chiefly reponsible for recording depositions, the relinquishment of dowers, furnished and kept records of road surveys, made lists of taxable property, issued marraige licenses, drew up and kept deed and morgages among other administrative duties. He also served as a major in the Fayette County Militia and, in 1782, he participated at the Battle of Blue Licks in which his brother John Todd was killed. As county clerk, he wrote the first contemporary account of the battle the following day as directed by his brother Robert Todd. It is considered the more accurate of five accounts available on the battle. He later wrote another account, the fifth and last published, as requested for both civil and military officials as their official report of the battle and included the eyewitness testimony of himself and Daniel Boone. [3] During the early 1890s, he built the first brick house in Fayette County naming it after the small Scottish village Ellerslie where the Todd family originated during the 16th century. Originally a one room-deep, two story square home on 30 acres, he hired the first arriving bricklayers and carpenters to expand the house eventually turning it into a large country villa with an additional 20 rooms and elaboratly designs both inside and outside the home. The estate had a number of outbuilding, particularly a stone round house where Todd stored the public documents of Fayette County. In 1803, angry tennant farmers and sqatters threatened to burn down the home in an attempt to destroy court documents threatening their proprty rights as the result of a recent court decision. At the time of his death in 1807, he owned 7,000 acres in Fayette and Franklin County and was worth over $6,000. Among his possessions included silver, fine china and leatherbound books; his personal library also contained rare works by Mary Wollstonecraft, Edmund Burke and William Blackstone. He also owned twenty-one slaves, nine horses and other livestock, and a carraige. He was buried in Lexington Cemetery. [4] References[edit]

Adrian Anthony (Adrian) Madaschi (born July 11 1982) in Perth, Australia is an Australian Football (Soccer) player of Italian descent. He is a Defender who's position is Centre Back and can also play Full Back. He currently plays for Portosummaga in Italy's Serie C2/B. Club Career[edit]Madaschi left Perth Italia to join Italian side Atalanta's youth team at the age of 15 in 1998. He qualified for an Italian passport, due to his Italian heritage on both his grandparents' side. Madaschi was part of the Atalanta youth side that won back to back Primavera Coppa Italia (Italian Youth Cups) in 1999-00 and 2000-01. He was loaned out to Monza in 2001, but that did not workout [1]. Adrian constantly made first team squads at Atalanta, but could never break into the then Serie A team. He was again loaned out by Atalanta to Pistoiese for the 2002-03 season. But again, did not see much first team action. Atalanta released Madaschi on August 2003. On December 2003, Adrian Madaschi signed for Partick Thistle in the Scottish Premier League[2]. Unfortunately, Partick were relegated that season, down to the Scottish First Division. Madaschi though got regular First Team Football, playing 24 matches for 2 goals in his debut Scottish season in the SPL and 27 appearances and 2 goals in the following season in the First Division. Unfortunately, Partick were relegated for the 2nd successive time, this time down to the Scottish 2nd Division. Madaschi left the club in May 2005, to join Dundee for the 2005-06 First Division season[3]. Adrian had to leave the club on November 2005 though, due to requiring an operation on his ankle, back in Australia[4]. Madaschi returned to Italy to join Grosseto for the 2005-06 season. He then joined his current club, Portosummaga in the 2006-07 season [5]. In March 2008, it's been rumoured after spending his entire senior football career overseas so far, that Madaschi will return to Australia, to play with the Newcastle Jets of the A-League[6]. International Career[edit]Madaschi was centre back for the Joeys at the 1999 FIFA U-17 World Cup in New Zealand where Australia lost on penalties to Brazil in the final, to finish runner up for the tournament. He also started all 4 games in defence for the Young Socceroos played at the 2001 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina. In 2004, Adrian was in the centre of defence for the The 'Olyroos' (The Australian Olympic Football Team) at Athens. Earlier that year in May and June of 2004, Adrian Madaschi was capped 4 times for the Socceroos during the Second Stage of Qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup. He scored 2 goals, as part of a 6-1 victory over Fiji, in his 2nd match for Australia [7]. Personal[edit]In May 2005 he took part in a National Back To School Day in his home town of Perth, Western Australia[8]. Honours[edit]With Australia:

Biography[edit]One of three sons of Toirdelbach Ua Briain, he was banished from Munster by his brother Muircheartach Ua Briain shortly after the death of their father in 1086. He lived in exile for several years while his brother ruled as King of Munster. He is believed to have been the commander of the Irish fleet that supported Rhys ap Tewdwr at the Battle of Mynydd Carn. [1] In 1093, he reconciled with Muirchertach after recognizing his claim and was installed as dux of Waterford. He eventually succeeded his brother as acting King of Munster when his brother became seriously ill in 1114. After taking the throne, he banished Muircheartach and soon was involved in a four-year struggle for control of Munster. In 1116, he attacked Muirchertach and Brian Ua Briain "in violation of a mutual oath on the relics of Ireland" besieging Limerick. This resulted in Muirchertach making peace with Diarmait, [2] however he was eventully captured by Muircheartach. He later died in Cork in 1118, Toirdelbach Ua Conchobair invaded Munster and partitioned the land between the sons of Diarmait Ua Briain and Tadg Mac Carthaig, Conchobar Ua Briain of Thomond and Toirdelbach Mac Carthaig of Desmond respectively.
