Silver Side is a melodic hard rock/metal band that hails from San Diego, CA. Their sound has been compared to the likes of Alice in Chains, Soil, Disturbed, Sevendust, Soundgarden and Pantera. They have self produced and released their full length album "Trail of Stones" in August of 2006 and continue to tour throughout the southwestern United States. Silver Side is best known for their extraordinarily energetic live act; having gained this reputation from their wild stage antics, custom light shows and crowd interaction.
Silver Side's origination in late 2003 with original members Nick Yarsulik (vocals/rhythm guitar), Matt Pahler (drummer), Kris Murray (lead guitar) and Doug "Smitty" Smith (bass). Initially Nick and Matt had been writing and working on material for a few months before Kris responded to an online add looking for another guitarist. About a month later Kris (who was in the US Navy at the time) brought in Doug Smith (who was also in the Navy) to take on bass duties.
After a few jam sessions, it was equally noted that a lead vocalist would better suit the needs for vocal work rather than Nick playing guitar and singing. Shortly thereafter Silver Side found vocalist Joe Dowling to fit the bill as lead vocalist. During this period Silver Side went through many different name changes - a few of which were Propagation and Filament. The name 'Silver Side' was finalized by a recommendation made by bassist Doug Smith who grew up in Toledo Ohio and lived near a street called Silverside.
After a few months of playing venues in San Diego and the surrounding areas in early 2004, the band decided to part ways with vocalist Joe Dowling due to conflicting interests. It was at that time Silver Side found vocalist Derek Shorey to fill in. Derek worked with the band only for a short period of time. Silver Side played a handful of shows with Derek as their vocalist, one of which was a showcase for major label reps. Unfortunately, Derek suffered from laryngitis and struggled throughout the performance. About a month later Silver Side decided to part ways with Derek. In addition, drummer Matt Pahler decided to call it quits leaving Silver both without a vocalist and a drummer. As fate may have it, Derek lived with drummer Terry Birks and recommended him for an audition. Terry was currently working with a country western band playing occasional weekend shows purely for fun. After Terry got wind that Silver Side was looking for a drummer he responded with an audition that impressed the band and now Terry was a member of Silver Side. Shortly thereafter, Silver Side added Angel Gonzalez to the lineup as vocalist.
Now that the band was back in order, a demo was in need. Silver Side managed to set aside about $800 for a four song demo recorded by Jeff Seres at King Ransom Studios in El Cajon, CA.
Soon afterwards, another loss beset Silver Side when guitarist Nick Yarsulik was forced to leave the band to help raise his newborn son with his newlywed wife. Silver Side decided to continue on as a four piece band.
At this time of restructuring, Silver Side parted ways with vocalist Angel Gonzalez as the band was looking for a harder edgier sound. Silver Side posted an ad on Craigslist seeking a vocalist. A few months into auditions Silver Side had received an email from Brian Corn with vocal tracks laid over “Don’t Ask Why”. Brian had completely restructured the vocal arrangements, melodies and even rewritten the lyrics for the song. This impressed the band and they quickly got Brian in for a live audition.
It was only a few months later when Silver Side would debut with their new vocalist at the House of Blues in San Diego on Friday November 11th 2005 and continue on playing as many shows as possible to get their new material heard.
DEBUT ALBUM TRAIL OF STONES
[edit]
In May 2006 the band stepped into the studio to record their debut album Trail of Stones with engineer Christian Cummings at Capricorn studios in downtown San Diego, CA. After a broken up period of 2 months, Silver Side was able to capture eight completed songs. The track titles are:
1. This World
2. Leave Me
3. Redshift
4. Not For You to Decide
5. Unknown
6. Trail of Stones
7. Never Alone
8. Flaw
Now that the album Trail of Stones was released the band needed to play as many shows to help support their album. Starting in January 2007 Silver Side played more than 50 shows and traveled in excess of 60,000 miles.
SMITTY LEAVES SILVER SIDE
[edit]
Near the wrap up of their tour in August 2007 bassist Doug “Smitty” Smith decided to leave the band. It was an upset that Silver Side had to deal with, but non-the-less the band needed to move on and find another bassist. Again Silver Side posted ads on Craigslist searching for a bassist. At the same time guitarist Kris Murray was working on a side project called Lead Burns Red with fellow local musicians Steve Aguirre (formerly of Rev), Grant Walker and Elwin Cox of Decompression. Through this project Kris was introduced to bassist Rob Lumpkin. Rob mentioned how much he liked Silver Side’s material and Kris offered to get him in the studio to work with Silver Side. At the same time Kris’s side project Lead Burns Red fizzled out giving Silver Side the opportunity to bring on Rob as their new bassist.
With the addition of bassist Rob Lumpkin, the Silver Side lineup was now complete. Up to this point, the only original remaining member of Silver Side was Kris Murray. Near the latter part of 2007 Silver Side worked on bringing Rob up to speed with their material and started writing new material. Silver Side was taking aim on a more dynamic and more aggressive sound than ever before. To this point, the band continues to write new material for their anticipated second release coming later in 2008.

Declined. This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. See the speedy deletion criteria A7 and/or guidelines on musical artists. Please provide more information on why this musical artist is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. Thank you. The three sources provided are insufficient: the first is a self-referential source of the band's website, which does not meet WP:RS; the second is a single interview with the band; the third, well, I have no idea why that source was given, it's a military website. If you could provide more sources, such as the interview or critical reviews of material, then the request may be reconsidered. Yngvarr (c) 17:51, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
