Odd situation with vanished user

Hi Wizardman, I encountered an odd situation today. Laurencebeck (talk · contribs) was automatically registered on 29 April 2013 and shows contributions starting from May 2013 up to today. However, his talk page redirects to User talk:Vanished user kweiru239aqwijur3, who supposedly "vanished" on 29 April 2013 [1]. From their contributions they appear to be the same editor, who has obviously not vanished. The question is, do I contact Laurencebeck on User talk:Vanished user kweiru239aqwijur3? Will he see it there? Voceditenore (talk) 05:54, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Good-day to you Voceditenore and Wizardman,
I discovered the maze of various levels of allowed knowledge in Wikipedia variously between the lowest vandalism through to Wiki bureaucracy . The tit-for-tatting at the mere typing of a key was so far from safe and responsible behaviour towards fact that I requested through the proper channel to be relieved of the notations of my contributions. And that was effected. Talk pages, tho, still required retention of identification.
There was recently an across various tables quibble about a wikilink from Norman Lebrecht page
to a wikilinked page which can be viewed in the history.
Voceditenore makes one revision —(Per WP:MOS - no links inside quotes) (undo | thank) "no links inside quotes".
Consulting WP:MOS - linking - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:MOS#Linking
the guidance is " As much as possible, avoid linking from within quotes "
Using one of the basic words in language so suddenly on a page given to a musicologist makes for either difficult or dismissive reading. To at once broaden the triteness of the statement and to take measure that the word for the Wikireader has the encyclopedia's reference I put the link.
regards and thank you . . --Laurencebeck (talk) 00:13, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Just to comment on Voce's point, it does seem that the two are the same user. Since said user did not vanish and started editing a week later, the best move would perhaps be a history merge. To comment on Laurence's point, if you didn't feel this was responsible behavior and needed to vanish, then I'm utterly confused as to returning to the username a mere week later. Wizardman 01:26, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
For the moment, I have removed the redirect on User talk:Laurencebeck to leave a 3RR warning suggesting that he discuss this issue at Talk:Norman Lebrecht (he has now reverted 3 different editors in the last 24 hours). Best, Voceditenore (talk) 04:30, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
The edits to the user talk page have been merged and a notice placed on the new talk page advising the vanishing has been rescinded (as far as possible). ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 02:57, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Discussion about the deletion of Business Ministry .

Hi Wizardman, I am a new Wikipedia contributor. I had published the page about Business Ministry. But you have deleted my page under G11 tag. I don think it was an advertisement for anything. I used the references from a book. Although you have deleted the page, I request you to restore the page, so that I can optimize the facts, remove anything that represent the page as an advertisement. Looking for your kind response on that issue. Thank you for your valuable time.Eragon.raju (talk) 07:24, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

I have been an arbitrator for too long

I sent you an email about a potential RFA candidate - and then added a subject line about RFAR. So...ummm....just making sure that you don't blame the potential candidate for my brain freeze.  :-) Risker (talk) 05:40, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

This week, we explored the fantasy worlds of video game developer Square Enix by interviewing WikiProject Square Enix. The project began in September 2006 as a spin-off of WikiProject Final Fantasy, but today covers that, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, and a variety of other game series, with exceptions explained in the interview below. The project is home to 32 pieces of Featured material and 104 Good and A-class articles.
The most-viewed articles on the English Wikipedia last week include...
Last week the Wikimedia Foundation released its annual plan for July 2013 to June 2014. It provides a surprisingly frank view—of past achievements and failures, and future goals and risks—that could be afforded only by a non-profit that is confident and beholden to no commercial or political interests.
Four articles, five lists, and sixteen pictures were promoted to "featured" status on the English Wikipedia this week.
The case Kiefer.Wolfowitz and Ironholds was opened. Voting on the Tea Party movement case continued, after a failed attempt at moderated discussion. A group tasked with deciding the content of the lead section of the Jerusalem article has reported back to the committee. Applications for checkuser and oversight permissions close on 22 July.

Ecstatic love for Krishna

Can you please explain more detailed why the page Ecstatic love for Krishna was deleted. The reason for deletion was provided as G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement. The article was written in own words and listed the features of Ecstatic love for Krishna which are described in ISKCON holy scriptures. Ecstatic love for Krishna is the highest spiritual state in ISKCON organization, ecstatic love for Krishna is the ultimate goal for ISKCON members which means that ecstatic love for Krishna has encyclopedic importance. Why this article was ascribed as Unambiguous copyright infringement? What needs to be fixed in this article? Omnidexterous (talk) 14:36, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Question re. Epeefleche's CCI

Hey Wizardman, I was just looking into the CCI for Epeefleche and I noticed that the second article listed mentions that he made two edits to the page, both of which were major. However, when I used Scottywong's User Contribution Search, it actually listed out 18 edits. Is this an oversight, or is there a reason why his CCI does not mention the entirety of his contribution history at the article? Kurtis (talk) 09:58, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

The contribution surveyor lists only edits that add more than 150 bytes and aren't reverts. Furthermore, some of the diffs might already have been reviewed. MER-C 12:54, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
What MER-C said, plus any edits post-2011 he's made won't be factored in since that was after the CCI opened. Wizardman 20:06, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

The Washington Post reported Tuesday on the most controversial articles on various language Wikipedias as determined by a cross-continental research group.
This week, the Signpost delved into the vast and complex areas of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that make up religion. WikiProject Religion has been around since 2005 and has a complex scope, in that it only takes articles that deal with religion in a non-sectarian sense, along with any articles that do not have a dedicated daughter project.

Death hangs over the top 10 this week, as tragic deaths both past and present continued to cast their pall over an already troubled world. The death of Corey Monteith led to a spike in interest in the man himself, his girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele, and the show that made them both famous, Glee.
Twelve articles, seven lists, and eight pictures were promoted to "featured" status on the English Wikipedia this week.

Requested Articles

Hi! I am trying to reinvigorate Wikipedia:WikiProject Requested Articles, which, if I get enough pointers that there is some interest, I will re-design, with a design similar to Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors, involving drives, to decrease the number of articles listed in the various subpages, and blue link blitzes, involving editors removing all created pages. I am planning, with sufficient interest, to make requested articles 'stricter', i.e. you have to provide two reliable sources, and write a short note explaining why the requested article is notable. There would be a reward system, involving adapted barnstars, similar to the Guild of Copy Editors have here and here. If you have any questions about my aim, or want to indicate that you would sign up to the WikiProject, please say so on my talk page. Thanks! Matty.007 16:26, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Sorry to see your note

Hi Wizardman, I was sorry to see your note that you're considering retirement. It seems like there's been an inordinate amount of hoopla lately in meta areas, but I hope that you'll be able to find some quiet corners like Weldy Walker that still seem worthwhile. I've always enjoyed reading your GA contributions and would sorry to see them go. But whatever you decide to do, I wish you all the best.-- Khazar2 (talk) 17:06, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Strongly seconded. The bottom line is that content contributions, particularly outside the occasional overtly contentious topic-areas, endure long after the daily sturm-und-dramas are forgotten. If there is some particular aspect of the project that is making you unhappy, stay away from that aspect. (You've already displayed your ability to do that when you decided you'd had enough arbitrating.) Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 18:28, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
I'm ignorant as to exactly which sturm-und-dramas may have been a problem, but what I do remember about Wizardman is their extensive contributions in an extremely important area where not enough other Wikipedians help. (One might consider it sewage-clearance-und-dramas.) There are many aspects that would be missed if you chose to leave. I would prefer you remained even if you completely changed your approach or chose to avoid certain areas. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:06, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the notes. Alas, pretty much everything outside of article-writing (restarting my project felt nice) has been a royal pain lately, all for different reasons so it's not like I can point to one thing and argue about that. I might as well try to refocus solely on article-writing for the time being. Wish I could just make all the people causing the drama do that as well, that's kinda the point of this encyclopedia :) Wizardman 15:26, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

Possible Bwmoll issue

Hey Wizardman. I just created this article from material on this page when I was slapped with a copyright violation tag from Madmanbot. I looked back to see what user added the material, and it appears as though Bwmoll3 (talk · contribs) is responsible for the material added throughout the page. Before I ask them what's up, as I suspect that they also added copyrighted material from here in this edit, although the Internet Archive isn't showing anything making a link. Do you think I should pursue this further, as I suspect that if there is one instance, there are probably more. Thanks! Kevin Rutherford (talk) 23:19, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

I've responded on my talk page, just so you are aware. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 03:23, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
I just placed some more evidence there, including proof on Walnut Ridge. Should we go ahead and contact Brent, or file a CCI, because I think we could easily focus in a few years and go with that. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 17:38, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello Wizardman. Would you please userfy this deleted article for me? I'm going to see if I can hunt some additional sources for it and would like to see if anything can be done to have it restored in future. If I should make this request somewhere else just point me in the right direction. Thank you. Candleabracadabra (talk) 18:44, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 July newsletter

We're halfway through this year's penultimate round, and the competition is moving along well. Pool A's Canada Sasata (submissions) currently leads overall, while Pool B's Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) is second. Both leaders are WikiCup veterans, and both have already scored over 600 points this month. If the round were to end today, London Miyagawa (submissions), with 274 points, would be the lowest-scoring participant to make it through. This indicates that participants will need a score comparable to last year's (573, the highest ever) to qualify for the final. The high scores this year are a testament both to the quality of participants and to the increased focus on significant content (eligible for bonus points) in this year's competition. So far this round, both Sasata and Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) have made up over half of their score through bonus points, with, for example, high importance FA koala earning Sasata a total of 440 points (from a multiplier of 4.4) and high-importance GA sea earning Cwmhiraeth a total of 216 points (from a multiplier of 7.2). Other articles on important topics submitted this round include a featured article on the Norman conquest of England by Wyoming Ealdgyth (submissions), and good articles on Nobel laureate in literature Henryk Sienkiewicz, Nobel laureate in physics Hans Bethe, and the noted Japanese aircraft carrier Hiryū. These articles are by Poland Piotrus (submissions), Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions) and Sturmvogel_66 respectively.

Other than that, there is not much to report! If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Recently you closed my RfA without citing any policy, guideline, or expressing specific concerns about it. I am accustomed to rows of “oppose” votes and this would not cause me to collapse. Can you either undo your closure or, at least, add a statement that unambiguously expresses your position, in a rôle of a WP:bureaucrat, about the incident? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 18:39, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Well WP:SNOW is usually a normal way of expressing the fact that a proposal has no chance whatsoever of succeeding so it's better to call it quits rather than flog the pony. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:42, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Another bureau, good… Can anybody of bureaucrats (Wizardman, The Rambling Man, or else) add a closing statement explaining that continuation of the RfA is undesirable? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 18:53, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
The closing statement said per SNOW didn't it? The Rambling Man (talk) 18:54, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
I added a link to WP:NOTNOW, which explains the early close and the rationale better than the SNOW link would. Wizardman 18:57, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I don't think this is a NOTNOW case, the editor has 9,000 edits here, plus he is trusted with the global rollback tool. I believe Incnis Mrsi should be given a chance to at least respond before the RFA was closed. Secret account 18:59, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

The basics for article quality and importance ratings have been determined, but tracking this data has not yet become widespread on the Turkish Wikipedia. The project maintains a portal, a variety of resources, and a rotating selection of images to spruce up the project's page.

I've been semi-wikibreaking off and on for a bit, mostly due to real life (tm) intervening. All too often in the past few months I have been somewhere where I was less-than-comfortable signing in, so I've been reading more, and editing less. But hopefully that has changed of late : )
There's a decent chance I may be writing up a new community-wide proposal soon. We'll see.

Good Article Recruitment Notice

Hello! I just wanted to remind our recruiters (you) about some things that seem to be forgotten about during recruitments and one "minor" change in the instructions.
  • When starting a new recruitment or finishing one, please please please, update your column(s) in this list. Also, please remember to update this page accordingly. This will help keep track of past and current recruitments.
  • Regarding the change within the instructions, the GA Bot has now created a separate list of GA nominations including only the nominations by nominators that included themselves in this list. When asking a recruitee to be a nomination, suggest they go to this page and pick a nomination from there. This is not mandatory but strongly recommended as we have already had one case where a recruitee was "scared" by a nominator (that was not on the list stating that they are fine with recruitees reviewing their nominations) and left the recruitment.

Thanks!

About a thousand Wikimedians journeyed to Hong Kong this week for the annual Wikimania conference, the annual gathering of the Wikimedia movement. Wikimania, which has been held since 2005, serves as the principal physical meetup for Wikimedians around the world.
One major story that came out of Wikimania was Jimmy Wales' statements at the conference that he would prefer to have Wikipedia banned entirely in mainland China than censored as it is currently.
The week's newest featured content includes seven articles, four lists, and twelve pictures.

Wizardman, I was wondering if you could take a look and decide whether this unbegun review should simply be deleted, and the nomination put back in the pool, or if it should remain active.

Viriditas opened the review on August 5, and nothing had yet been done on it when 25 hours later Viriditas was blocked for three months. it seems to me that rather than this being a Second Opinion matter, deleting the review page and starting fresh is probably the way to go. Hello Wizardman. Concerns were raised by another editor on Talk:LGBT rights under international law that the corresponding article is at least partly plagiarized. I confirmed this, identified at least one source of the copying, blanked the page, and reported the problem to Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2013 August 21. However, as this article is the subject of an ongoing RFC on the content (which I initiated), I was wondering if I might persuade you, as an uninvolved WP:CP volunteer, to verify the problem and, if possible, to process the investigation at your earliest convenience. The copyright issues need to be sorted before the discussion can proceed, but as I'm already participating in said discussion I shouldn't be the one determining what text must be removed.

If you don't have time that's fine; I could ask someone else (maybe User:MER-C or User:Moonriddengirl). —Psychonaut (talk) 16:31, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

I'll take an in-depth look tonight or tomorrow. On a surface skim, the heavy block quote usage in the article is a red flag to me, and if the non-blockquote parts are copyright violations, then we do have major problems there. Wizardman 21:58, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Many thanks. If you can get the copyright issues out of the way then those of us participating in the RFC can get back to discussing whether and how the remaining content needs to be improved. —Psychonaut (talk) 22:46, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

On behalf of WP:CHICAGO, thanks for your editorial contributions to Joe Tipton, which has recently become a WP:GA.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:15, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Why remove the comment?

It was addressed at Sphilbrick and other administrators who standby and do nothing. Secondly, TRM's edit summaries can't be retracted. He's not fit to be an administrator around here. For approximately a month he has been attacking me and nobody wants to do anything or make excuses....William 22:23, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Hey Wizardman-- I'm sorry if I'm a bother, but could you review my CHU request above if you have some time? I have no idea if this is a time-consuming thing to do for editors who have several thousand edits, but it's somewhat inconvenient for me to be globally logged off right now (which is what the notice on CHU/S recommends I be doing). I'll be watching this talk page and CHU/S while logged off. Thanks, I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 23:35, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Article Feedback Tool update

Hey Wizardman. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:28, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

article "Institute for New Culture Technologies/t0"

hi wizardman, sorry about writing again. you deleted this article end of july. in the deletion discussion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Institute_for_New_Culture_Technologies/t0 it was suggested to delete the article and then userfy it on request. could you please move it to my sandbox, so i can work on it? i have just edited the article 'Public Netbase', which is closely reletad to t0, and i have collected a lot of links and references to prove t0's 'notability.' so it would be great if i could continue and soon finalize my work on this subject. i don't know if moving the article to my sandbox might cause any problems. if so, could you please tell me, what would be a better/easier way to edit the article and try to bring it back into wikipedia? thank you! Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Wiching, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Methodius, Swabian and Saint Methodius (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Wizardman, it looks like Teb00007 opened this review on August 4, and then disappeared from Wikipedia a week later without actually starting the review proper. Terry created an edit notice that mentions going to a funeral on August 8, though didn't connect it up to the talk page (which I think was the intention). At this point, after over a month, I think the best thing is to delete the review page and update the article talk page to the nomination goes back into the reviewing pool; if you agree, go ahead and do it. Many thanks. (I'm going to see if someone on WT:GAN is interested in taking over the review that was already in progress.) BlueMoonset (talk) 20:39, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:Gandhi Abbas Tyabji.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Hello

Hi there Wizardman, thank you for leaving a message on the talk page I own.

I understand that several editors copied ideas as they've written it. Sometimes, altering any articles such as this one: Pringdale Gardens Junior Public School would've been rewritten to avoid copyrighted issues.

Once again, thank you for the message. If you have any questions, leave my message on the talk page.

Hi Wizardman. I see that you deleted my page on Beyond Budgeting for copyright infirngement. I used the terms Beyond Budgeting, Beyond Budgeting Round Table and Empower and Adapt, which MadmanBot said were copied from www.bbrt.org/bey-bud.html. The copyright for this web site is owned by Beyond Budgeting Association Ltd of which I am a Director. Hence I am using terms form our own web site. Also the terms used are in common usage in various blogs, web sites, books and articles. How can I create a page on Beyond Budgeting without you or others deleting it?

The saga of Walter White, chemistry teacher-turned-drug kingpin, as told in the critically adored television series Breaking Bad, has been a water-cooler necessity for years, and now, as it nears its end, audiences are feverishly following every plot thread to guess what the finale will reveal.

WikiCup 2013 September newsletter

In 30 days, we will know the identity of our 2013 WikiCup champion. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) currently leads; if that lead is held, she will become the first person to have won the WikiCup twice. Canada Sasata (submissions), Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions)—who has never participated in the competition before—and New South Wales Casliber (submissions) follow. The majority of points in this round have come from a mix of good articles and bonus points. This final round is seeing contributions to a number of highly important topics; recent submissions include Phoenix (constellation) (FA by Casliber), Ernest Lawrence (GA by Hawkeye7), Pinniped, and red fox (both GAs by Sasata).

The did you know (DYK) eligibility criteria have recently changed, meaning that newly passed good articles are accepted as "new" for did you know purposes. However, in the interests of not changing the WikiCup rules mid-competition, please note that only articles eligible for DYK under the old system (that is, newly created articles or 5x expansions) will be eligible for points in this year's WikiCup. We do, however, have time to discuss how this new system will work for next year's competition; a discussion will be opened in due course. On that note, thoughts are welcome on changes you'd like to see for next year. What worked? What didn't work? What would you like to see more of? What would you like to see less of? All Wikipedians, new or old, are also warmly invited to sign up for the 2014 WikiCup.

Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
