Far-left politics
[edit]I really like your work on this article and I hope that you'll take it to GAN once you finish it. I'm unsure whether I'll pick up to review the article, depends if I have enough free time. I've spotted one possible error in the article. While mentioning populist left-wing parties, you've mentioned Netherlands and Scotland. But to me, it seems like the Scottish one is redirecting to a wrong article. Your source most likely thought of the well-known Scottish Socialist Party. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 20:06, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! I went ahead and fixed the link. I am hoping to take this to GAN along with all of the other main political spectrum articles. Centre-left politics, Centre-right politics, and Centrism are already done. Far-right politics, Right-wing politics, Left-wing politics, and Left–right political spectrum are still on the to-do list, and I expect those ones are going to be a little more difficult. But for now, my goal is to find more sources about the general history of far-left politics as opposed to sources about specific ideologies or countries. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 00:49, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah the rest will be more difficult. If you want, I'd like to particularly cooperate w you on bringing Far-right politics and Left–right political spectrum to GAN status in the future. I have background knowledge in far-right politics and have also personally wrote the Far-right politics in Serbia article. I'll begin collecting sources for both of these articles, so that we'll be ready in the future when we work on these articles. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 17:24, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- Sounds good! So many of the sources about far-left politics say something to the effect of "way more has been written about far-right politics", so I'm thinking it's going to be a big one. It also doesn't help that the current far-right politics article is basically a disorganized list of different countries' histories. Centrism had a similar issue and I split it off into Centrism by country as a means to WP:PRESERVE, but it remains to be seen what the best approach will be for this one. Either way, I'm hoping it will be a lot easier to find general sources like "history of the far-right" without having to draw too much from sources like "history of fascism" or "history of the far-right in France" or anything like that. Top-level sources make it much easier with this type of article. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 21:40, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm pretty aware of that... There's a lot and I mean A LOT of scholarship regarding Far-right politics than Far-left politics. IMO, finding sources will be much easier for far-right politics just because of this. I'll begin collecting them at User:Vacant0/Far-right politics and User:Vacant0/Left–right political spectrum. Feel free to add any sources that you find to those lists and when we both find free time in the future we can start working on those articles.

You can undo any edit if there's a problem. And if another editor has advice based on edits you made, it's not uncommon to have people leave notes on your talk page directing you to whichever guidance page talks about a given issue. Question from Herohcreatives (20:30, 10 August 2025)
[edit]Hello mentor, I hope you’re doing well. I’d appreciate your help reviewing this Wikipedia draft on Kieran Donovan. Could you please let me know if its tone reads as neutral and if the sources support neutrality? I value your guidance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Kieran_Donovan --Herohcreatives (talk) 20:30, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- I can't say for sure whether it'll be accepted one way or the other, but what stands out to me is that the sourcing isn't independent. Most of the sources are created with Donovan's involvement or with the involvement of an organization he works with. The Tatler and Law.com sources look somewhat promising if they're reputable outlets, but I don't know if that on its own is enough to prove that Donovan is a notable figure for Wikipedia's purposes. Generally, there aren't articles about people on Wikipedia until after the press or scholarship has taken note of them and written about their lives. - If I were to withdraw my nomination, it wouldn't invalidate the other delete !votes, and the deletion discussion would continue. - My searches are typically in this order: Google Scholar, Google Books, Internet Archive (title search for broad subjects with books about them, in-text search for more specific subjects), and the Wikipedia Library (De Gruyter, Jstor, Oxford Academic, and SpringerLink have been the most helpful, but I'll go into other collections if that's not enough). Thank you today for the article, introduced: "Rose Cleveland was the sister of U.S. President Grover Cleveland. He had not yet married when he became president in 1885, so she served as acting first lady until his wedding the following year. Despite all of the excitement in Washington, recent scholarship has taken more interest in the years after, when she began a same-sex relationship with Evangeline Marrs Whipple and moved to Italy. The couple provided assistance for refugees of World War I and the Spanish flu, of which Cleveland herself died in 1918. This is the sixth U.S. first lady article I'm submitting as a featured article candidate, part of a project I began with WP:Women in Green, and the first not to be the wife of a president."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:47, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from Crescentmoon25 (16:24, 22 August 2025)
[edit]Hi! I have a question about referencing NLM. If, for example, you look at the page for Pompe Disease, the link for the first citation is to NLM but the link goes to a page not found. The link *should* be https://medlineplus.gov/genetics/condition/pompe-disease/ but it's https://medlineplus.gov/genetics/condition=pompe-disease/. Do you have any idea why this would be? It's unclear to me based on what is there ([1]) why this would be, and what I would need to do to fix this?
Thank you! --Crescentmoon25 (talk) 16:24, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- Crescentmoon25, it looks like the template is broken. My guess is that medlineplus changed how its links are formatted. I made an edit on the template side so it uses the slash instead of the equals sign, but there's still the issue of it saying something like "pompedisease" instead of "pompe-disease" which has to be fixed with each individual use, so I've created a post at Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard#Broken links with Template:National Library of Medicine reference to let others know about the issue. Question from Alex261995 (13:34, 23 August 2025)
[edit]Hello, I’m new to Wikipedia and interested in creating a biography article about a notable entrepreneur who has been performing exceptionally well in the business world. I noticed their photo is available on Wikimedia Commons and there’s a Wikidata profile as well. Could you please guide me on how to start a draft for a new article and what sources I should use to meet Wikipedia’s notability criteria? --Alex261995 (talk) 13:34, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- Alex261995, the page at Help:Your first article breaks down what you need to know. The main point is that you need a few reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Press coverage from major publishers is good, but things like interviews or company websites should be used sparingly and don't count toward notability. The other main thing to keep in mind is the neutral point of view policy. Make sure the article doesn't sound like it's celebrating the person or highlighting their successes. Wikipedia is especially strict about this on people related to business because there are many who misuse Wikipedia as a way to promote themselves. There are also special considerations if you know the person or are connected to them in some way. If you have the necessary sources and there's enough to write a neutral description of the person, then you can start at the article wizard. You're also welcome to practice editing by fixing problems on already existing articles, or to ask questions at WP:the Teahouse, which is a page specifically for new editors. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 15:28, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi! I’ve just finished my first draft
- User:Alex261995/sandbox
- Could you please review my draft and let me know if there are any notability, neutrality, or citation issues?
- I’ve tried to follow all Wikipedia guidelines and only used independent, reliable editorial sources.
Is my draft suitable for submission as a first article, or would you suggest any improvements before I submit for review?
- Thank you so much for your help! --Alex261995 (talk) 18:09, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- here is the link of my first draft --Alex261995 (talk) 18:12, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- Alex261995, I'm afraid those sources probably aren't going to demonstrate notability. They're all interviews, meaning Dužanec was personally involved in their creation. You'd need to find sources where reliable publishers have decided to write about her without her involvement. There are also some neutrality issues with the article. For one example, saying that "Her brand is known for innovation and quality" is promotional, and things like that can't be included in an article. It can often be difficult to write articles about only moderately well-known figures like this, and oftentimes you simply have to wait until they become more famous. Question from Pulupu Satya Sai Ganesh (13:00, 27 August 2025)
[edit]Hello, I am planning to write my first article on Wikipedia and I am considering the topic of a local politician. Although I have prior experience in writing blogs and academic articles, I want to ensure that I follow Wikipedia’s guidelines properly. Could you please advise me on how to determine whether this politician meets Wikipedia’s notability requirements, and whether it would be appropriate for me to begin with this topic as my first article? --Pulupu Satya Sai Ganesh (talk) 13:00, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- Sure! To prove notability, you'll need to find reliable, independent sources that write about the person. If they're received significant press coverage, especially at the national level, that could be helpful. But be aware that most local politicians don't reach this point. Routine coverage like campaign announcements or non-independent coverage like personal websites don't prove notability. The other question is whether you have any personal involvement with this person. If it's someone you know or someone you work for, there are additional considerations when writing about them on Wikipedia. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 19:24, 27 August 2025 (UTC)

[edit]The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:
BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,175 round points, mainly from sports-related articles, including 17 good articles, 27 did you know articles, and 9 in the news articles
Arconning (submissions) with 1,090 round points, mainly from articles about athletes and politicians, including a featured article on Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 9 good articles, 28 did you know articles, and a wide assortment of featured and good article reviews
AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) with 854 round points, mostly from a high-scoring featured article on the Indian leader Rani of Jhansi and two good articles, in addition to 13 featured and good article reviews
Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.
In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).
Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. - Ray.Pri, start by editing the article again. I'm assuming you're using the Visual Editor. Once you're editing the article, you can click on the citation and there should be an "Edit" button on it. But if you're using the source editor (the one that looks kind of like code), you have to add it manually. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 20:33, 4 September 2025 (UTC)

[edit]hello hope you are doing great. actually i created one more draft please check and let me know if i need to do some changes. is it good to publish for public ?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Alex261995/sandbox/simkaur --Alex261995 (talk) 08:59, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
- Alex261995, this would probably be declined if it were submitted as a draft. It seems like a promotional piece rather than a neutral description of her career. The sources also look like they might have been published for promotional reasons, which would make it difficult to write a neutral article. If you're interested in creating an article, I suggest writing about someone or something more well known so that it's easy to find lots of neutral coverage on them. Alternatively, there are a lot of articles that are only a few sentences long and basically need to be written from scratch. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 17:50, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

- Pablo Marcelo Leon gomez, I strongly advise against this. There are strict rules when writing about yourself, and promotional content is entirely prohibited on Wikipedia. There are also reasons why having an article about you can potentially be unpleasant, which you can read at Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. [edit]Greetings,
Hi, I am User:Bookku. I initiate and support information and knowledge gap areas on WP wherever whenever possible. Time to time, also invite other users in draft/ article expansion work.
I was looking for some draft article expansion help in couple of topics. Requesting your visit to User:Bookku/My Choice (2015 film) and Draft:1969 Rabindra Sarobar Stadium en masse sexual violence controversy article expansion help if you find your interest in any of the topic.
How I came to user name? My general way is mentioned on my user page. In this specific instance: A google scholar search for User:Bookku/My Choice (2015 film) took me to term Femvertising that took me to the article Purplewashing then your contribution it's contributor history from there on I visited Xtools stats which indicated at times you have worked on women's history topics.
Thanks and warm regards Bookku (talk) 07:57, 24 September 2025 (UTC)

Question from MrNobodyInChat (13:57, 30 September 2025)
[edit]I have a few questions about an edit I did on the AFCI (Arc-fault circiut interrupter) article, which don't seem to be there anymore. I'd like to know why that is the case, and how I can fix this. Thank you. --MrNobodyInChat (talk) 13:57, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hello MrNobodyInChat, it looks like your edit was undone by another editor because it wasn't an improvement to the article. A reference to something a YouTuber did isn't really relevant to the subject of AFCIs in general. Wikipedia articles are based on what reliable sources write about when covering a topic, and reliable sources about AFCIs don't usually talk about Electroboom. Your good article nomination of the article 2003 has been placed
on hold, as the article needs some changes. See the review page for more information. If these are addressed within 7 days, the nomination will pass; otherwise, it may fail. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of The Blue Rider -- The Blue Rider (talk) 15:24, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
DCWC closing update
[edit]Two weeks ago, the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard, we have our winners.
vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions), continuing his work on covering abortion in Africa, comes in third with 692 points.
simongraham (submissions) comes in second with 763 points, largely from a slew of good articles about jumping spiders. And returning to the podium for the second year in a row,
BeanieFan11 (submissions) takes the Gold Belt Buckle with a mind-boggling 946 points from his series of articles on sportpersons. Congratulations to our winners!
Amazingly, the award for the most countries covered goes to both
BeanieFan11 (submissions) and simongraham (submissions), who each submitted articles under 30 flags!
BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins for writing the most quality articles (16 good articles). For submitting 16 articles related to El Salvador,
PizzaKing13 (submissions) wins the award for most submissions under one country. The award for most submissions related to women goes to both Spookyaki (submissions) (7 biographies about women) and
vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) (21 related articles). And for the second year, simongraham (submissions) wins for the most reviews, having submitted 21!
Among the participants' contributions were 2 FAs, 5 FLs, 124 GAs, and an uncounted number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...
We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Hey I wanted to see if you could update the 2028 democratic primary and put Kamala harris expressed interest thank you --Gttbgff (talk) 19:25, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Gttbgff! It looks like our coverage of the 2028 Democratic primary is under a section at 2028 United States presidential election, and she's already listed as "expressed interest" there. It's likely that it will warrant its own article in a couple years once there's enough information that it won't fit in a single section. And keep in mind that if you add information without a source, that makes it much more likely to be removed. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 04:03, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
