Densa

I would not want you to have to spend money to view an article, but you have said repeatedly ("The McGowan article does not exist, as far as I'm concerned. Why doesnt the New York Times have it's own article in it's own database?") that the 1987 McGowan New York Times article I cited in the Densa article does not exist. Please see [1] from the NY Times website, which at least shows it exists, but I no longer have free access to it, so I can't say how much it says about the fictional organization. Gunfighters Template

I've created a new infobox template for Gunfighters and can't figure out how to make it work properly in articles. Something tells me I'm in over my head and have botched it. Can someone tell me what I've done wrong so I can fix it? The Parsnip! 20:07, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When I paste the text into the article, instead of getting the infobox, I get all of the text from the template page. You might have to try it and do a "preview changes" to see what I mean. The Parsnip! 21:26, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, can't work it out! All very strange, as you get to the point where the infobox should display but then hit the problem that you've been having! Hi. If you view the source for Template:Infobox_Gunfighter you'll see the "infobox" has no code, that is, you've basically written the help-document or information page for this proposed "Gunfighter Infobox" without ever coding the infobox itself. The other problem is transclussion. In your very first line you say:

<includeonly>{{template doc page transcluded}}</includeonly><noinclude>{{template doc page viewed directly}}</noinclude>

This causes the entire page to be transcluded whenever you call upon it. Yes templates are supposed to be "transcluded" but you've asked for the entire page to be transcluded. Feel free to take all that out. Then code your infobox properly. Then add a tag <noinclude> and from then on you can document your infobox and its usage, and obviously anything after that <noinclude> line will not be transcluded when you use the template.

Take a look at Template:Infobox_Film, and view the source. You'll see there's a huge amount of coding there, followed by some <noinclude> tags that document the infobox that don't get included in the transclusion.

Just wanted to clarify. You basically have three issues:

There is no actualy coding for your infobox template yet. Like I say, see Template:Infobox_Film for an example of actual code, and then they use a <noinclude> tag to throw some documentation in that doesn't get transcluded.
This line: <includeonly>{{template doc page transcluded}}</includeonly> wasn't working. Have a look at Template:template doc page transcluded. What it does is it assumes that your template has a "Doc" page, in your case Template:Infobox_Gunfighter/doc or whatever, and then transcludes it into your template. For now, leave that out.
This next line: <noinclude>{{template doc page viewed directly}}</noinclude> also isn't very clever. According to its template documentation: Template:Template doc page viewed directly it does this: "This template takes an optional parameter which replaces the name of the template, intended for use where one page contains the documentation for several related templates.". So for now take that out, too.

Update:

At the moment all you've got in the template now is:

{{Infobox Gunfighter | name = | image = | imagesize = | caption = | birth_date = | birth_place = | death_date = | death_place = | occupation = | years_active = | notable_opponents = | spouse = | children = }}

Just in case you don't know, whenever you put something between two curly-brackets {{ [PUT NAME HERE] }} it calls upon the wikipedia page called Template:PUT NAME HERE

So in your case your coding for the template:Infobox Gunfighter is "Please transclude the contents of Template:Infobox and the first parameter is "Gunfighter", the second parameter is "name" and the third is "image" etc.

That's not gonna help at this point. It might have worked, but if you look at Template:Infobox it says:

Copy the source of this template (available from the view source link) and paste it into a new blank page. Only the part up to, but not including, the tag <noinclude> is necessary

Vandalism regarding A Trip To The Moon

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how correcting

Image of Big Nose Kate at 17

That's a very poor argument for deletion of an image, unless the replacement is exactly the same photo, but a better one. In this case, the "better quality image," is one of a middle-aged woman of 40-- one in a completely different phase of her life. The woman Holliday first met about age 26 in 1876 probably looked closer to the girl of 17, than the other image of the plump woman of 40--- but nobody knows. I've replaced the younger one with a much better quality one. They should both go in the article so we can extrapolate what Kate looked like from 17 to 40. Use the headshot up front, and the younger one in the section on early life. I'll re-add it. S B H arris 19:09, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Siouxsie Sioux image

Hi there! I saw that you (quite correctly) removed the non-free image from Siouxsie Sioux, and thought you might be interested to know that there was a GFDL image of Siouxsie on that page, but it was removed several times by an editor that thought it was "too awful" to use. I'm sad that the Missy Hyatt article got deleted, because from what I know of her, she seemed notable. with the edit summary "rm evaporated link" because it was a bad URL, and you reverted my deletion with the edit summary "rv unexplained deletion of reference" ... I subsequently discovered that the {{cite web}} tag was malformed (with fields duplicated from a poor copy&paste edit), so I corrected it and found that this is what it should have been ...

Ultimately, the reference turned out to be in violation of Wikipedia:External links#Links normally to be avoided, specifically:
