Please fix the pipes in your signature

[edit]

Pipes in signatures cause problems when the signature is used inside a table or template. Please fix, like this:

<span style="font-family:monospace;font-size:16px"><span style="color:#6040bf">thetechie@enwiki</span>:~$ <span style="color:#4055bf">she/they</span> &#124; <span style="color:#40bf55">talk</span> &#124; <span style="color:#bf40bf">contributions</span></span>

per these instructions. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:40, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jonesey95 thanks for the note. I knew I forgot something in my signature update. TheTechie (talk) 18:54, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95 scratch that, that didn't work, now my signature is plaintext-ified. TheTechie (talk) 18:54, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Quoting the error in my settings:
Your signature must consist of a single line of wikitext. TheTechie (talk) 18:56, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah so the HTML character does not work, but pipe does. I've added a comment to the appropriate documentation page. thetechie@enwiki:~$ she/they | talk | contributions 19:03, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like you made the correct change. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:26, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jacobmakaza Tv (23:23, 24 December 2025)

[edit]

How do I write my story --Jacobmakaza Tv (talk) 23:23, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Jacobmakaza Tv,
I would strongly suggest against writing articles about yourself. If you are notable, someone will write an article about you. If you want to read why, this page explains it well. thetechie@enwiki:~$ she/they | talk | contributions 02:04, 25 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@~2025-38988-09:
That does not address the comments I made. The comments were to not expand an already excessive plot summary, not that your edits were reliably sourced. Please stop adding to the already excessive plot unless you can condense the other parts. thetechie@enwiki:~$ she/they | talk | contributions 19:32, 25 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rejection of my article

[edit]

Hello,

I’m just a little confused on your reasoning for rejecting the page Eastern Ohio Buckeye Conference. There is SEVERAL pages of athletic conferences, if they’re not “notable or necessary” does that mean they need to up for Article of Deletion?

Seriously think this needs to be reconsidered or looked over from someone else. This is a well known conference throughout the state of Ohio as well as the OHSAA. But if this is not “notable or necessary” then all the other pages should be up for Articles of Deletion. My article is properly sourced if some notability is needed.. Porfiriotorres991 (talk) 01:01, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Porfiriotorres991,
Can you give an example? thetechie@enwiki:~$ she/they | talk | contributions 01:04, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
An example of the OHSAA conferences? Porfiriotorres991 (talk) 01:05, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Porfiriotorres991 yes, an example of a such existing article. I will take a look at those and determine if your draft should be unrejected. thetechie@enwiki:~$ she/they | talk | contributions 01:06, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, a few include of Suburban League, Akron City Series, All-American Conference, Metro Athletic Conference (Ohio)
I’m not entirely sure what differentiates these articles from this one Porfiriotorres991 (talk) 01:09, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Porfiriotorres991 alright, seeing this, I have changed the rejection to a decline, meaning it can be resubmitted. I have also added a new comment for what to fix. I apologize for any confusion. thetechie@enwiki:~$ she/they | talk | contributions 01:11, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Still a little confused on this decision when for example All-American Conference, Metro Athletic Conference (Ohio) are still up with similar amount and style sources? So does that mean they should be included for articles of deletion Porfiriotorres991 (talk) 01:14, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure in the cases of those articles, I will leave another editor to determine whether those should be deleted or not. thetechie@enwiki:~$ she/they | talk | contributions 01:15, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In other words, they should be decided on a case-by-case basis. thetechie@enwiki:~$ she/they | talk | contributions 01:18, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

New pages patrol January–February 2026 Backlog drive

[edit]
January–February 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol

New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points.

 • The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026.
 • The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability.
 • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive.
 • Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants.
 • Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points.
 • Streak awards will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds.
 • Barnstars will also be awarded for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.
 • Interested in participating? Sign up here.

Hi there!

[edit]

Hi there. I stumbled upon your userpage and noticed a minor error: On your infobox, under timezone, you have PST listed as +7/+8 UTC. It’s -7/-8 UTC. I would have just WP:BOLDly fixed it myself, but with the Editnotice you have put up, I didn’t want to cause any offense. Hope you have a great day! phuzion (talk) 10:07, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Phuzion,
No worries! That editnotice was added because of a disruptive editor who blanked my user page once. You're welcome to make bold changes like that.
Thanks, thetechie@enwiki:~$ she/they | talk | contributions 20:48, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Note from NannyRosie ( 23:16, 27 December 2025)

[edit]

Hello TheTechie,

I received your message and your edits, and in answer to the revert actions taken I would like to alleviate any concerns you have by sharing that all my edits to the articles I've contributed to are original. The issue seems to be that I leaned too heavily on ChatGPT language to construct a list of standardized edit comments. I enjoy contributing to articles, but I struggle in how to word my edit comments. A careful review of my actual edits vs. my edit comments should satisfy your concern that the article itself was not edited or written by any LLM. I dedicated quite a bit of time to my original edits and to my contributions of any new material and I feel this is evident in the article edits. On the "Choctaw" page for example, I added new information that was requested by other editors and had eluded editors for some time. That contribution alone took me a full day to acquire the needed info and share it. I am confident if you read my contributions line by line within the article you will find them to be unmistakenly human. To further encourage confidence in the edits, I received "Thanks" from Yuchitown for the "Shawnee" article edits, a respected editor belonging to a Federally Recognized Tribe. It was also Yuchitown who requested the "Choctaw" article citation and source which I was able to provide.

I've spoken with my mentor on Wikipedia and to avoid this issue in the future I will no longer be using a "standardized" list of edit comments and simply write each edit comment out myself without assistance. I apologize that what I thought of as an action of frugality in my editing would be something to raise the suspicions of my fellow editors. I'm new to all of this and made a rookie mistake. Thank you for raising this issue and helping me to learn.

Regards,

Rosie

I've attached my conversation with my mentor below for your review. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nannyrosie (talkcontribs)

Hello Nannyrosie,
Firstly, please do not excessively edit your inquires after the fact. It clogs up my notifications. I was pretty startled this morning when I saw I had 25 new talk page messages. Every time you edit/add your comments on my talk page, I get a notification.
Second, please do not paste in messages from others' talk pages. If you need to reference another discussion, please link it. I have removed it.
Third, please do not make excess headings. This confuses the bot which archives my talk page comments.
Concerning your AI use, I read your discussion with your mentor. I understand that you used AI to create an edit summary. Might I suggest you use the templates provided instead? At least when doing Visual editing, I have a list of common edit summaries under "Common edit summaries" and "Common minor edit summaries". Not sure if that appears for you. Also, I agree with them that changing a bunch of words in prose to synonyms is not particularly helpful, especially since no other contributor has brought it up before. So here's my suggestion to you: I understand you're not using LLMs, but possibly you could do some other editing instead of changing words with LLM-made edit summaries (using the ones Wikipedia provides instead)? To an uninvolved editor, these types of edits look like disruptive LLM edits. Maybe you could copyedit articles in need of it, as you seem to be good at proofreading. Either way, I hope this makes sense, and please feel free to ask if you have any other questions. Hello TheTechie,
I've noted your requests and will make sure to follow the instructions you shared in the future. Apologies for the extra alerts and clutter. I wasn't aware I was creating those issues. And yes, I will certainly use the "Common edit summaries" you have shared from now on. They are very helpful! Thank you for the corrections and guidance and for taking the time to write me regarding these issues. I appreciate it very much. Nannyrosie (talk) 18:56, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
