Username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw how you edited or created Cashboard, and I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Subimage", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or have the appearance of shared use. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. --Drm310 (talk) 04:02, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't a shared account. I use this same name on multiple websites as an individual (github, stackoverflow, twitter, etc). Not sure why I should have to defend my choice of usernames? I did add a page for my product Cashboard onto the list of time tracking tools, but wrote it in an objective manner that complies with Wikipedia's guidelines. There are multiple references from other sites which make it notable, and I took special care not to compose my entry in a biased way. There's nothing "promotional" about it.

Not sure why I'm being challenged here. Should I change my username to "Seth @ Subimage"? I don't see that I've done anything wrong after reviewing your policies. Please let me know if I've missed something. Thanks. --Subimage (talk) 09:26, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Subimage" is a company name and the username policy states that type of username not permitted (WP:CORPNAME). However your proposed change would be acceptable, as it indicates that you're an individual (WP:ISU).
Also, if you work for or represent Subimage, you would be in a conflict of interest position. You should disclose this fact if it's true, so that other editors can be reassured that you're editing in good faith and not with promotional intent. Thanks. --Drm310 (talk) 16:00, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
