"identifies as"

[edit]

Hey, thanks for the work you're putting in to address the use of "identifies as" per WP:LGBTAVOID, but please make sure the sources support your change. As I wrote in that section: If reliable sources in an article (or the subject themself) use identifies as, then it should remain in the article body. However, if those words aren't explicitly used in any references, then the word is works much better and more concisely at conveying the same information. I've reverted one of your edits where the phrase is in the source, and I'm grabbing an archive link for another claim where the source was dead. Thanks, what if one source does and one doesn't, as with Abigail Salisbury? Which takes precedence? Silencio x (talk) 15:53, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My rule of thumb is to keep it if any of the cited sources use the phrase. "Identifies as" can be ultimately boiled down to personal preference on how one's identity is described. That said, if the phrase was sourced, but the subject themselves explicitly don't want that phrase used, then I think that's grounds to remove it. On reflection, this is also not a big deal by any stretch of the imagination, and I doubt it would be a controversial change on the majority of articles. Apologies for hounding you on it. LaffyTaffer💬(she/they) 16:15, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification: British Unity (2025) is not Nick Griffin's group

[edit]

The recent edit incorrectly links the 17 August protest in Ashington to the "British Unity" founded by Nick Griffin.

This is a different organisation, founded independently in 2024/2025 by Sean Wilson, with no connection to Griffin or the British National Party. The cited Huffington Post source is from 2015 and predates this group's formation by nearly a decade, so it cannot apply.

I'm requesting this reference be removed or updated to reflect the correct organisation. SeanWilson2002 (talk) 23:17, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
