[edit]That's possible, I think, and we should be able to set up infoboxes to handle it automatically with {{age}}. Good idea! Hersfold (t/a/c) 23:27, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
The infoboxes do handle age automatically. But the categories bring together all people who have something in common, in this case being the age in which they died. It would be a lot easier than making a list of people who died at a certain age, and would list the people automatically.
- I agree that it should be possible to create automatically generated categories for this, possibly based on the existing "births" and "deaths" categories. I think that this would be a good idea, and should be implemented. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 01:36, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I've replied on my talk page to your recent message. Also, I suppose Template:Death date and age could be edited to automatically add Category:Deaths at age 29, etc to pages, although Wikipedia:Categorization of people#General considerations says categories should not be automatically assigned. This may not apply to templates though since templates like Template:Recent death automatically add pages to Category:Recent deaths. --Pixelface (talk) 13:39, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah I like the idea so far. Maybe give it a try and we can see where it leads. --Banime (talk) 00:19, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the update, I'll take a look at it. --Banime (talk) 21:01, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Death date and age template
[edit]I've edited Template:Death date and age/sandbox to make it so it automatically adds the category Category:Deaths at age X to pages that transclude that test template. You can look at User:Pixelface/Sandbox for an example of how it looks. If an admin takes the code from this version of Template:Death date and age/sandbox and saves it at Template:Death date and age, it will add a category to every page that transcludes {{death date and age}} — somewhere from 25,000 to 30,000 pages — and it should put them into about 122 age of death categories. I've seen support from you, Hersfold, DGG, Josiah Rowe, Banime, and Matthewedwards. Explodicle doesn't seem to care either way. TenPoundHammer says it "might be too narrow a categorization", but I don't think it would conflict with WP:OC#NARROW. You could put an {{editprotected}} template on Template talk:Death date and age and ask an admin to transfer the code from here to Template:Death date and age if you'd like. --Pixelface (talk) 05:21, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Asa Seeley
[edit]
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Asa Seeley, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of Asa Seeley

I have nominated Asa Seeley, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Asa Seeley. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. I don't know that there's an intentional connection, which is why I used the key word coincidental. There may, in fact, be a connection, but I didn't find a source that said so, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. It's just interesting that they chose that play on words, and that they use a rabbit as their symbol. That rabbit suggests a more normal-looking rabbit, not Bugsy at all - which stands to reason, as they would need a licensing agreement with Warner if they were to use Bugsy's image or anything that resembles it. I have removed your addition of the above proposed guideline to WP:V, WP:RS and WP:N... since your proposal is still at the "proposed" stage it is premature to add it. That said, I like it and intend to support it. My issue is purely with your timing and not with any flaw in the proposal. Blueboar (talk) 15:32, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for File:MTA17sch.jpg}
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:MTA17sch.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. License tagging for File:MTA77busRolling.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:MTA77busRolling.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:07, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit]for including WP:BEEF on {{Essays on building Wikipedia}}. Hopefully even more people will now notice it. Thanks. Nosleep break my slumber 21:32, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- There are hundreds of essays that have been written over the years, but most of them are little known, essentially orphaned. For a long time, I have been creating navboxes as a way to de-orphan articles, and now I have moved on to essays. I have recently joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Orphanage with that specialty, and I am trying to get a new WikiProject Navbox started to get others to do the same. RE: Spam warning
[edit]Hello Sebwite,
First of all, let me tell you that I was not intending to spam anyone, as you appear to have stated here. If you read the message, you would have seen that "You have received this announcement because your user page indicates that you live in Maryland, Virginia, or DC." Also, the bot, Thehelpfulbot was simply following a bot task request, as indicated here. I would also prefer if you didn't use standard warning templates on experienced users such as myself and others, as I know the rules and policies, and am an administrator - I don't need links to welcome pages! For occasions such as this where you think the user is spamming, a personalised message would suit better, as users may become offended to be regarded as "newcomers" when they have been around on Wikipedia for quite a while.
This message was not intended to be spam, as it was not spamming or advertising external links, but was simply a friendly message to let users know of a Wiki Meetup in D.C. I hope that you understand this and I have gone ahead and removed the warning that you placed on my user talk page, as the bot was not spamming.
Regards,
The Helpful One 21:12, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi Sebwite. I like your idea here. I have a bit of a quibble, though: most of them are guidelines, rather than policies. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:06, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
- Regardless, these all can be used to argue for or against a deletion. I could rename it "policies and guidelines." Sebwite (talk) 03:44, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Volunteer opportunity in Bethesda, Thursday, July 16
[edit]The Wikimedia Foundation will be conducting an all-day Academy at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, on Thursday, July 16. The team that will be teaching at the Academy, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, is looking for four more volunteers to be teaching assistants, providing one-to-one assistance in workshops whenever a workshop participant has a problem following the instructional directions. (We currently have two editors signed up as teaching assistants, and are looking for a total of six.)
The NIH editing workshops are only for two hours, but volunteers are asked to meet the Wikimedia Foundation team at the hotel in Bethesda at about 7:15 a.m. (time to be finalized shortly) and to stay for the entire day, which ends at 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. (The full schedule can be found here.)
The team is not necessarily looking for expert editors (though they are welcome), just people who can help novices who might get stuck when trying to do some basic things. If you've been an editor for at least 3 months, and have done at least 500 edits, you probably qualify.
If you're interested, please send John Broughton an email. If you might be interested, but would like further information, please post a note on his user talk page, so that he can respond there, and others can see what was asked.
(You have received this posting because your user page indicates that you live in Maryland or DC. --EdwardsBot (talk) 03:39, 10 July 2009 (UTC))
Image uploads
[edit]
Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view previous uploads by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'file' namespace from the drop down box (or see [1]). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading! Sfan00 IMG (talk) 00:52, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
