History of OpenEmbedded

[edit]

Holger Schurig here: OpenEmbedded came a bit after Bitbake. If I remember things correctly, I actually started the idea-gathering and programming of BitBake (a python written, dependency based auto-builder for software) before OpenEmbedded existed. Correct: I used concepts from Gentoo's ebuild. But bitbake recipes have more: because the embedded devices vast in numbers, yet similar, I added a per-variable override things, where the architecture or machine name can override things. Like QT_DIR = /opt/qt; QT_DIR_pxa = /usr/lib; QT_DIR_rt4000 = /usr/local/lib. I also added the concept of overrides. However, I didn't develop bitbake to a point where it was REALLY useable, other chimed in and made bitbake usable. Also only a very few bitbake recipes are from me. Bitbake + recipes + classes -> OpenEmbedded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.128.36.15 (talk) 07:17, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I will try to add the history of Openembedded soon, regards --Scientist.St (talk) 06:10, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
