Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is 154.160.1.61. This is the same device I use for my WMF staff on-wiki activities as User:STei_(WMF). I use no proxies or VPNs for whatever reason.sandiooses^TextMe 19:54, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

This block isn't necessarily related to what device you are using, and is completely unrelated to what employer you are using it for. It's more likely that someone on this connection (not necessarily you) is using (and has been repeately detected for around two years) a "free" residential proxy / sketchy "anonymizing" app. These are problematic because they often-to-always share your connection with other users of the app. SQL ^{Query Me!} 00:45, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

Thank you SQL for trying to help me understand a functionary's POV better. These blocks and their appeals make us chase our tails in these conversations.

A blocked user is asked to produce the device's IP in their block appeals and is given instructions on even how to retrieve one's own device IP. Blocked users are called upon to appeal a block by providing more information.

As someone with 2 accounts where my device, network, etc remain unchanged wherever within the Movement's virtual space I operate, that is the additional information I can add besides saying I don't use VPN or proxies –– which didn't work with the first appeal.

I am a non VPN/proxy user being asked to appeal as though I am using a VPN/proxy and appeal a block at this point. If the response miss the blocker's point, then the denial of the appeal and request to provide more information miss the point of the blocked as well.

Blocks can sometimes be a bit of a "whack-a-mole situation" for the functionaries because of how anonymous things can get on our wikis. Hence my intentional mention of my other activities in the Wikimedia-verse. If I worked elsewhere outside the Movement, I wouldn't bother saying so.

Moving on, and since you are here, which other proof can I give now that I don't use any of these problematic VPNs and proxies? I am happy to provide it. I have community events upcoming and I need my account. Would a block exemption request work? –– Sandiooses (talk) 12:11, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

I apologize, yesterday was a very long work day, and I ended up falling asleep before I could complete working this request. I am going to go ahead and grant you local IP Block Exemption. As far as proving a negative, I'm not sure what advice I can offer there. That IP shows up as being detected using callback proxies here. I want to stress that this isn't a malicious event - this can be caused by other users on the wifi/network, malware/infections/malicious apps, or even a compromised device. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
