Fraternity article support
[edit]Hi RattleEditor - thanks for your regular updates to the Theta Chi page. I'm a participant in the Fraternities and Sororities Project, a group of some forty Greek-friendly alumni who keep track of about 1,400 Greek society articles plus their founders' pages, lists of chapters, or notable members, and related pages. As a project participant I get notified whenever someone makes a change to a Theta Chi page (along with many others), so I know that your edits are quality. We have a tracker that alerts us to changes to all these pages every day, and where the change is unsubstantiated or clear vandalism, we immediately revert it. Sometimes with a minute or two of posting. One or more of our Project members is typically online, checking for this.
You'd be most welcome to join us. There are no specific duties, just a shared concern over policing for vandalism, improving pages, and making these a comprehensive resource. We believe that our work helps these societies flourish. Click on the project page to see the landscape, and join. Best regards, Jax MN (talk) 17:09, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
Historical inquiry
[edit]I'm working on the Beta Kappa page. Just added an infobox, crest, pin, et al. Assuming you are staff at Theta Chi, would you look up the original ΒΚ chapter name for the Susquehanna University chapter? Obviously, Theta Chi's name for it is the Beta Omega chapter. However, I've got conflicting sources, one that says Beta Kappa had previously named it Alpha Psi chapter, and another that says it was their Alpha Omega chapter. Thanks! Confirming
[edit]RattleEditor adjusted two items that may be incorrect.
- Is Theta Chi's fourth chapter called "Troy, NY" or is it called the "Rennselaer chapter", which follows the model for the Fraternity's other chapters by noting the institution, and not the city.
- Northwestern State is a problematic school name, as it doesn't note which state. We commonly include a state name or two-letter acronym to ensure clarity. Was this removed as a personal style choice? Or for a firmer reason?
- 1. This is based on our internal Style Guide. Chapter did not reapply for recognition from RPI for a number of reasons
- 2. This is based on our internal Style Guide. I am unaware of any other Northwestern State in the U.S.; 'Northwestern State' is used by ESPN.
- Still not clear to me. Obviously the fraternity may name its chapters as it chooses. So if "Troy, NY" is the name, that's your business. I see they remain active, per the List; but what do you mean by, "Chapter did not reapply for recognition from RPI..."? Are they active? Are they unaffiliated with the school?
- As to Northwestern State, this is probably workable from WP's perspective as the table includes a Wikilink redirect. See, we aim for clarity: There are fourteen schools with "Northwestern" and "University" in their names, as listed on this DAB page: Northwestern University (disambiguation), and ten more with "Northwestern" and "College", see Northwestern College. These include Northwestern University, Northwestern College (Iowa), Northwestern College (Illinois), Northwestern State University (the site of your Northwestern State chapter), and the University of Northwestern. Thus my point that, even though the WL works, yours is a redirect. Placing a further clarifying state name in the table would be helpful.
- Theta Chi's extensive work on its WP article and associate List page pre-dates much of the work that has been done on other fraternal list pages. Templates have evolved and improved over time. While your innovations are attractive, some editors (and you yourself) might consider the addition of additional table fields that aid in clarity, following other good examples: See Omega Tau Sigma, Sigma Delta Rho or List of Alpha Gamma Delta chapters.
