Templates

[edit]

Hi,
why are there so many templates? I cant understand the reason. I mean, this information can also be included in the article without the template. Kindly ping me while replying. —usernamekiran(talk) 12:59, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Usernamekiran, the original idea, as far as I can tell, was to make it "easier" for "new" editors to update a page when the software was updated; instead of editing the page directly and having to figure out where the specific line for "latest stable release" was found, you could click the ± link and be taken directly to a template that had only the latest stable release information. This, by and large, has only been determined to be useful when it's a "big" thing like {{infobox hydrogen}}.
There is zero reason for there to be some convoluted LSR subtemplate that is awkwardly called by the infobox purely for the reason of eliminating |latest_stable_release={{date and age}}.
It's low on my priority list, but I've been attempting to get rid of the ones with zero or one transclusion, and demonstrate that these templates really should be deleted wholesale. Primefac (talk) 20:07, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
