International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP)
[edit]ICMP the global voice of music publishing
[edit]ICMP is the world trade association representing the interests of the music publishing community internationally. The constituent members of ICMP are music publishers’ associations from Europe, Middle East, North and South America, Africa and Asia-Pacific. Included are the leading independent multinational and international companies and regional and national music publishers, mainly SMEs, throughout the world.[1]
Mission
[edit]As the voice and point of reference of music publishers, and their community of composers and songwriters internationally, ICMP's mission is to increase copyright protection, encourage a better environment for business and act as an industry forum for consolidating global positions. [2]
Structure
[edit]Membership of ICMP is open to organisations and companies that either operate as, or represent, music publishers. ICMP has a Board of Directors elected by the General Assembly every two years and has two elected Bureaux – Pop Music and Contemporary Serious Music - that advise the Board. There is a full time Secretariat headed by the Director General, Legal and Regulatory Affairs practise head, a Regulatory Associate and various part time staff covering policy, public relations and events. ICMP has 60 member organisations representing some 10,000 music publishers worldwide.[3]

What Music Publishers do
[edit]Music publishers provide a bridge between the creative process and the market. They discover, nurture, develop, promote and invest in composers and authors and ensure their work finds a commercial outlet. Music publishers protect the interests of artists and guarantee their creative output is rewarded by arranging contracts and protecting copyrighted music. Publisher members of ICMP cover all music genres, invest in lyricists and composers and support advocacy for fair and effective copyright laws to allow artists to make a living from their work.
Areas of focus
[edit]ICMP works together with its members to address intellectual property and copyright issues across the globe including:
- Free Trade Agreements
- Global Repertoire Database
- Exceptions to copyright and WIPO
