There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your user page. By the way, seeing as you haven't created a user page yet, simply click here to start it.
Please remember to:
- Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the
button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp. - Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.

Your edit to page on Tony Orchard
[edit]How many mothers do you have?
What is the authority for the distinction you are making between education and alma mata? Does anyone else follow it? Athel cb (talk) 11:06, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
- First of all, based on biology I can be only be produced by a single mother. But I can call anyone my mother, not constrained to the a specific number. Or you might be referring to "nourishing mother"? Be that as it may, I am simply following the guidelines, Template:Infobox person clearly shows alma mater being used under multiple unis. If there is some confusion, we can resolve this on talk page without doing edit war. Orwell'sreader (talk) 11:21, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
- Alma mater is a bit more specific because it specifically implies a formal institution that one attended (college/university), whereas I suppose education could include things like "self-taught" or "middle school drop out," but that obviously doesn't apply here because they both have college educations.: at reddit page, https://www.reddit.com/r/EnglishLearning/comments/8txq92/alma_mater_vs_education/ Orwell'sreader (talk) 11:27, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
- Also when you wrote the summary for your edit made, you added "..(I knew him well at one of those)". This specific line represent you personal experience, this is significant because editing about someone you know is not allowed and that means you are a person with Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard) conflict of interest. I suppose you must not edit this page then. Orwell'sreader (talk) 11:40, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oh gosh! You have been editing 5 pages that were related to you and nobody knew. Have you ever revealed that? Orwell'sreader (talk) 13:27, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
- Yes. If you had bothered to read the relevant History pages you would know that. I only rarely read a History myself, but I always do if there is any suggestion of a conflict of interest. Why don't you?
- You say "If there is some confusion, we can resolve this on talk page without doing edit war". I've not said anything that could be regarded as edit warring. The only person who has done so is you. Would you be kind enough to tell me what I have done to make you so hostile? What did I do to offend you?
- I see you've taken your hostility one step further by reverting my mention of Oxford in the Infobox about Jeremy Knowles. The article itself makes it clear that he worked at Oxford for several years (from about 1961 to 1974 -- not a trivial amount of time). (I didn't write that: it was there long before I edited anything, at least since September 2015). If you really want to stand by your opinion you need to edit the article itself, not just the InfoBox. Athel cb (talk) 17:21, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
- I think admins will take it from here. Have a good night or morning or afternoon. Orwell'sreader (talk) 17:26, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
- I said the edit war stuff for heads up. You are old enough to not nag about it, I guess. Orwell'sreader (talk) 17:29, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
