Turkish baths
[edit]Hi, I see that all but a handful of edits on this page are by you and you are clearly the expert on this subject, something I respect. However, most people, especially nowadays, do not know what a Turkish bath actuallly is and despite its mention in the article on the Titanic, someone coming to this article and not knowing what a Turkish bath is (read most people under 40) will need to look it up. Wikipedia does not have an entry for 'Turkish baths' so readers are automatically shunted to 'Hammam' which is totally different. I can understand that you, as author of the article, don't wish to include loads of peripheral information, and so respect (while still disagreeing with) your view that it is unnecessary to add information about the attendants being masseuses, etc. So I am happy to go along with that. However, it is essential to put a correct link round Turkish baths so that further information can easily be found. I, like you, tend my articles carefully, but we don't own them, so I hope that my reinsertion of the link alone will not make you too unhappy. For my part, I find it difficult to understand your tollerance of the article's links to Liverpool, Merseyside, Southampton (the latter twice), etc, none of which pages adds anything at all to the subject of the article. But I am glad you inserted links to the two cemetries; they are helpful. All the best. Ishpoloni (talk) 01:43, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Your assumption that I am the "owner" or the "author" of that page is WILDLY off and a dangerous accusation so please do not venture into that. You will note most of my edits are related to the officers, adding a few photographs, and updating outdated information about the wireless operators.
- As for your "difficulty" understanding my "tolerance" to links to two major cities which are famously linked with the ship AND where majority of the crew came from, I don't know what to say other than kindly read the article itself and learn about the major connections between the crew and the ship with the two cities.
- I noticed YOUR edit because it was not related to the CREW and you decided, for some reason, to change their title. I explained twice about my reasoning and quite politely but you persisted. You did not even extend the courtesy to tag me in the talk page of that article when you made the section over two weeks ago. The way to do this is talk it over in the talk page and we can then come to some compromise, not force your own will.
- For now, I will add the link back but not in the place you persistantly keep adding and I would advise you to add any information to this link about Titanic first class facilities which is more visited and more appropriate for the "Turkish bath" discussion. Omnis (talk) 09:04, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- I'm sorry yet again. I was so upset that I'd upset you that I wrote to apologise before carefully reading the rest of your post. Please ignore my request to reinsert the link as I hadn't yet realised that you had already inserted one, for which many thanks.
- I seem to have made more than a thousand edits on this subject over the years and thought that just explaining below was sufficient. There have only been two instances where someone felt annoyed and both were settled amicably. I will certainly look to see how to tag someone and do so in future. As a Liverpudian I certainly know of the connection, but the Titanic is not mentioned on the Wikipedia page. It is, of course, on the Southampton page. I would never start a war, and am now retiring from the page. Ishpoloni (talk) 09:35, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Ishpoloni, well count me impressed! :) I appreciate anyone who is so keen on spreading the knowledge they know about their interests! That is certainly my case too!
- You certainly are welcome to add more to the First class facilities article which is a bit lacking if you can help out at all! As I note that is the appropriate place for any information or knowledge that you wish to add about this subject.
- In case you are wondering about tagging, you just add @ and add the name of the user you wish to tag. Hope this is helpful! Omnis (talk) 09:41, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks again. That is helpful, and easy too! Ishpoloni (talk) 09:54, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Please accept my apology. I had not intended to sound rude or be rude. I used your talk page rather than the article talk page as I thought it was private between us. I actually don't understand the workings of Wikipedia very well. But I do know about Turkish baths and ask you, politely this time, to replace the link and the upper-case 'T' which latter is correctly used elsewhere in the article. Life is too short to quarrel and at 91 I try not to upset people. Ishpoloni (talk) 09:13, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Ishpoloni, that is quite alright. I am sorry if I came in a bit too curt too. The issue is that you can get into dangerous waters with accusations with the admins so that is the reason for my initially and sudden warning.
- I have added the link and expanded the section a little for some more explantion. This way, the link is also there. It still needs refining from me but I will continue to do so.
- Hope you have a good day! Regards, Omnis (talk) 09:35, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you. That is all very much appreciated, and I have learned from your intervention. Best wishes, Ishpoloni (talk)
- P.S. I think we must have crossed in the post. Ishpoloni (talk) 09:38, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- No worries at all! Hope you have a good day! :) And I hope you also accept my apology as well! Omnis (talk) 09:43, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
- Of course I have. And I've now looked at your revision. Thank you, and it's so much better too, as it explains the role of both male and female Tb attendants in a much more appropriate place. Ishpoloni (talk) 09:48, 26 August 2026 (UTC)
