[edit]I think Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#RfC: merging Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names with AN(I) should be no consensus, not consensus against. There were strong arguments on both sides and 8-5 isn't numerically overwhelming enough to say there's consensus against. voorts (talk/contributions) 17:52, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Voorts: I changed it to rough consensus, still think the arguments were better on the oppose side. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 18:10, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- The support argument was "too many noticeboards" and the oppose argument was "here's why this noticeboard is actually necessary". —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 18:10, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- I think those are fairly equally strong arguments; they're just talking past each other. voorts (talk/contributions) 18:33, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

- "Reduce clutter" is by it's nature quite a weak argument. Proving something isn't clutter supersedes that argument. That's my chain of reasoning at least. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 19:12, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Matrix, please refer to me as Henn. Would you please check my fluency and citation in the Airbus article? Also, how long would it take for me to become verified so I can edit semi-restricted articles? --Hennedits (talk) 15:07, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Henn: I checked the edit, the citation itself seems to be fine, just a few things:
- Per WP:CITEFOOT we don't add a space between the citation and full stop
- Be careful with primary sources - in this case they are allowed but not in every case.
- You will be autoconfirmed in 4 days after 10 edits.

Hello, I have a slightly odd question but we ran onto a situation we do not know how to follow up. Our company page is available in French. We would like to have a version in English but we are not sure how to proceed. We are absolute beginners on Wikipedia. How can we do this? --Breno iM (talk) 21:47, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Breno iM: you could translate the French page at User:Breno iM/sandbox. Make sure the page is well-sourced, and meets the notability guidelines for companies. Question from Eddie O'Hara (09:56, 25 October 2025)
[edit]Hello, there is an entry on Wikipeadia on my father Eddie O'Hara (Footballer) and I would like to put a short entry bio on myself, such as: Eddie O'Hara BEM is a British social worker based in Birmingham, England. He is the founding chair of the charity 'All Birmingham's Children (ABC) which advocates for children living in poverty and chiuld friendly policy. O'Hara was awarded the British Empire Medla (BEM) in the 2022 New Years Honours for services to children and families. Thank you Eddie --Eddie O'Hara (talk) 09:56, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Eddie O'Hara: Welcome to Wikipedia! firstly, you have a conflict of interest, so please keep that in mind. You could use {{Edit COI}} to do so. Secondly, if you make changes, they must be reliably sourced, which I don't see above. If you have further questions please let me know. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 10:06, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

- @VNK28: Welcome to Wikipedia! Hi, you can create a user page at User:VNK28. For how I organised the tables, I just used the visual editor. Inside the cells I placed userbox templates, like Template:User en-N. Information about userboxes is at Wikipedia:Userboxes. hello! I was editing Michaela Paetsch's page. In the, 'Early life' section it states: 'Paetsch was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado to cellist Günther Johannes Paetsch and violinist Priscilla Paetsch, both of whom played in the Colorado Springs Symphony. Her brother, Johann Sebastian Paetsch, is also a cellist. Paetsch’s parents taught all seven of their children to play stringed instruments, and she began taking violin lessons at the age of three.[1][2]' I think the information about her brother and her siblings learning to play instruments is not necessary, and unfocussed, if the article is on Michaela. Do you think those lines should be removed? --VNK28 (talk) 00:03, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- @VNK28: I agree that they should probably be removed, since a reader could just look at the articles linked for details. I think the section generally could also do with some expansion, e.g. where did she go school, assuming you can find that information in reliable sources. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 11:03, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- Okay great, will remove. Will also try to some expanding as you suggested. VNK28 (talk) 23:26, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
Guide to temporary accounts
[edit]Hello, Matrix. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
- When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:
~2025-12345-67(a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5). - All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
- A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
- As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
- There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
- There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
- Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
- Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.
Impact for administrators
- It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
- It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
- Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
- Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
- Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.
~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR
, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67) - See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.
Useful tools for patrollers
- It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options →
Enable the user info card
- This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
- Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
- Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
- The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

hello again! Just working on Michaela Paetsch's page. I have removed information about siblings as we discussed. But, the page has been organised with a yearly account of her musical career, which means we get information about her education and early life from a musical perspective, and any non music related education is dotted across different parts of the timelines ie. there is mention of her attending Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School, but thats just a part of the 1970s overview. This structure is also what gives it the feel of an obituary. Is there a way we can amend this? --VNK28 (talk) 23:45, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- @VNK28: The career section is definitely too broad (you can't start a career until you're born!). A lot of the 1970s section should be removed as unsourced/poorly sourced, and/or as unnecessary detail. Otherwise it should be moved to early life. Some of the 1980s also duplicates the discography. I think the section structure should be Early life - Career (you can subdivide if you want, but I'm not sure how) - Notable performances - Personal life - Death - Achivements - Discography, but that's just my opinion. I'm not an expert, so you may get more focussed advice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 11:37, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
Question from Kimanialex (19:24, 1 November 2025)
[edit]hello how can i start earning --Kimanialex (talk) 19:24, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Kimanialex: I would say you should edit Wikipedia for the fun of the game like I do, but if you're really set on making $$$ then Wikipedia:Reward board is a good place. You should probably get experience in other areas of the encyclopedia first though. If you have any further questions please let me know. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 21:28, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
Hi Matrix, I wanna ask a question. How does lua modules in this wiki work, exactly? --Munyonn (talk) 13:59, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Munyonn: in general, you write module code at Module:INSERTNAME, and call the module in a template/page like {{#invoke:INSERTNAME}}. More detailed instructions are at mw:Extension:Scribunto/Lua reference manual. If you have further questions please let me know. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 15:13, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
hey again! Still working on the Paetsch page. Do you think this section (below) can be removed? Or do you think parts of it can be retained and shifted to the early life section I am working on?
"When Michaela was 12 years old, she won both the Colorado Springs Young Artists Contest and the Pueblo Young Artists Contest.[11] As a result, she performed as a soloist with the Colorado Springs Symphony, the Pueblo Symphony under the direction of Gerhard Track, and the Jefferson Symphony in Denver, Colorado.[5]
Paetsch would practice a minimum of four hours a day, and increased that amount when she was preparing for competitions.[12] At 16, she won first prize in the National String Competition sponsored by the American String Teachers Association, held in Chicago, Illinois.[13]" --VNK28 (talk) 23:06, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- @VNK28: the first sentence doesn't have a good source (WP:BLOG), so you might want to remove that or find a better source. Other than that, everything is well-sourced, (you can see the OCR on the newspaper.com for free), so I think it is ok to include. Of course, verifiability doesn't guarantee inclusion, but I do see this as a significant enough event in one's early life (it should be moved to that section). —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 18:22, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- this makes sense! thank you. VNK28 (talk) 01:10, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
