Thank you. Given your interest in trains in general, may I ask why there isn't a category dedicated to Mixed-traffic locomotives? Given that there are ones for passenger, freight, and shunting locomotives. Machine Man77 (talk) 20:39, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Machine Man77, that category had once existed, but was deleted according to this Category for discussion (CfD), stating that the category is considered too broad for its purpose. EditorGirlAL07 (talk) 06:53, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Another question, seeing as there's already a subcategory labelled "Passenger locomotives in the United Kingdom" within "Passenger locomotives", would it be appropriate to relocate all British passenger locomotives to that category? Machine Man77 (talk) 15:44, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it would. I have done it. Good suggestion. -- Verbarson  talkedits 12:51, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.
On a side note, who should I ask regarding the creation of new categories, Like if I wanted to create a category for "Boxcab locomotives" or "Locomotives withdrawn in [insert year here]"? Machine Man77 (talk) 14:37, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think that Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains is a good place to go.
It seems to me that most loco articles are about a class of locos, and very few classes are all withdrawn in one year, so it might be difficult to decide which year to categorise a loco class in? -- Verbarson  talkedits 14:52, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the directions.
And by the way, I was thinking by the year in which no members of a class were left in regular service. So I guess it should be "withdrawn by" instead of "withdrawn in"> Machine Man77 (talk) 14:56, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Machine Man77, if you want to create a new category, I would highly recommend using Wikipedia:CREATECAT as a guide. EditorGirlAL07 (talk) 01:21, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your vandalism by adding irrelevant country of origin for cars in categories

Why is it vandalism? It feels redundant to have the cars from Chinese auto makers all directly linked to "Cars of China", when that page also links to Chinese vehicles by the individual brands like BYD and Chery. This makes "Cars of China" look unnecessarily huge? Machine Man77 (talk) 16:36, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Looking unnecessarily huge by what kind of standard? Should wiki be all fact-based? If it is Chinese a car then it should be that way. "Category" is meant to cover all the articles it refers to, otherwise it is completely non-sense. Infinty 0 (talk) 17:03, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, it's just that when you look at "Cars of Germany", it doesn't have every single Volkswagen model directly listed in that category, it provides links to the models produced by Germany's own brands, same with France and Renault, or Japan and Toyota. There was a consistent method between those categories, and didn't understand why "Cars of China" wasn't following that formula? Machine Man77 (talk) 17:13, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Infinty 0, except I don't think it's vandalism - these edits appear well meant, but they do not serve any useful purpose. For instance, for decades, any car sold in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and many others had to be assembled there. It doesn't mean that this is the cars origin or that Toyota Corolla belongs in "Cars of Thailand" any more than it would in "Cars of Austria." You are merely adding cruft which will never be of use to anyone. Sorry.
I recommend finding something better to apply your machine-like levels of energy to: perhaps go find some old publications in your local library and trawl them for useful information which can be added?  Mr.choppers | ✎  02:51, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, After I noticed the categories for Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina, were already quite thorough, I figured it made sense to complete the list for other countries. Machine Man77 (talk) 16:04, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
