November 2024

Information icon Hello! I'm Jasper Deng. Your recent edit(s) to the page 2024 Pacific typhoon season appear to have added incorrect information, so they have been reverted for now. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. The official best track has 90 kt and 935 mb. Do not arbitrarily "adjust downwards" (or upwards) storm intensities. Jasper Deng (talk) 04:11, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I will send it. MAS0802 04:13, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I saw wrong thing. Yes, lower pressure still remain 935 hPa. Thank you for correcting my mistake.

Tropical Depression 06F 1-minute wind speed

[edit]

Hello, I have noticed that you have repeatedly removed the 1-minute wind speed for Tropical Depression 06F on the 2024-25 South Pacific cyclone season and that you have once stated in the edit summary that it was "not yet" time to add the wind speed. I would like to ask when will it be time to add the wind speed and why using the 1-minute wind speed from the track data used to create the track map was not sufficient. Thank you! 2003 LN6 17:22, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That's a great question. First question, you updated 1-min wind speed when JTWC is officially upgraded it to a tropical depression or tropical storm and give it a TC number like 02P. Second question, we using 1-min wind speed from the track data because we would detect the track of TC easily based for JTWC. But Another calculation liked 3-min, 10-min used for many meteorological service such as JMA, BoM, BUFR and is not suitable to used it because there got another format/calculation to calculate a TC for meteorological service. Hope you understand, thank you. MAS0802 02:29, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I only use the sustained winds from the track data, which is made by the JTWC and hosted on NOAA servers, on plaintext pages like https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/ATCF/JTWC/bsh922025.dat. I only input them in the 1-minute sustained winds category and nowhere else, as I do not know the 3-minute or 10-minute sustained winds which would be obtained from the BoM. So, I believe that this should be enough to put the peak wind speed in the 1-minute category and nowhere else, and I am not aware of the existence of another source for 1-minute sustained winds in areas not monitored by the NHC. Thank you! 2003 LN6 04:14, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

01F

[edit]

I would say that upgrade of 01F in the Fiji Islands Climate Summary for December 2024 is more preliminary than BT. I personally find it suspicious that it had 1-min winds of 50 kts and that it wasn't a Cat 1 TC on the Aussie scale, but we will see what happens after the season.Jason Rees (talk) 16:28, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
