Managing a conflict of interest
[edit] Hello, LookingSideway. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the Edit Request Wizard), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GoldRomean (talk) 14:45, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @LookingSideway, as a fellow Wikipedian with interest in graphic design history, I would like for you to address this as well. I noticed you are only focusing on the David Hillman article since you created your account, which is considered WP:SPA and is bound to raise flags in the community. If you have COI, please disclose it. Best, Nonhibernatingbear (talk) 21:00, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, just published COI on user page, is that the correct place? Please review any additions I have made for bias LookingSideway (talk) 12:47, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
David Hillman
[edit]Hiya! First, please address the above. I noticed that you reverted my edit to David Hillman (designer), so now I'm here for the "Discuss" part of WP:BRD. Some of the sourcing is okay, but I find others dubious (e.g. source 27, Terence Donovan, states Hillman as only an "editor"). It is very promotional and unencyclopedic to have a long list of someone's works (like a portfolio), so I suggest only including the most important ones or ones that are covered by independent reliable sources. GoldRomean (talk) 14:56, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- (As a further response to @Akaganetica), you provided Kenneth Grange as an example, which is a great example actually :). Most of them are sources to independent sources, as mentioned above. For example,
Grange was also involved in the design of the 1997 LTI TX1 version of the famous London taxicab.
is cited to The Guardian, not, say, LondonTaxicabCompany.com. GoldRomean (talk) 15:03, 16 July 2025 (UTC)- Hi GoldRomean, nice catch, I have added extra references for the Source 27 issue, please review. As for the list style, agreed it should be reduced to a more concentrated one. However most sources all look independent and reliable to me as far as I can tell. Out of interest, how does as Designers list of works differ from, say, a Discography of a band or a Book list of an author? They are both within the public/cultural domain and referenced. - Hi, thanks for your reply! I'll continue with this discussion when you answer the notice above. GoldRomean (talk) 18:38, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
