ANI
[edit]Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.--John (talk) 20:38, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Biography verification
[edit]Hi, I notice you've been changing some of the biographical data for Annette Gordon-Reed, who you've apparently identified as yourself. Unfortunately, as I'm sure you can imagine, we have to worry about pranksters pretending to be biographical subjects (such as celebrities), so we generally have to check out claims like this, especially since some of your changes differ from what published sources say.
Would you mind contacting our Volunteer Response Team at info-en-q@wikimedia.org so they can verify your identity offline? There is some more info at this help page. (I'm not sure how they do the verification--I think they just email your known office address or something similar.) Just say who you are, the name of your account, and that you've been trying to fix details in your biography and were asked to authenticate because of an ANI thread (WP:ANI is a noticeboard we use for various issues of administrative concern). They may have another question or two, and they can then issue a ticket number and put it into the article history log so that other editors will know that you are you. Having that can also make it faster for you to get any possible future problems straightened out.
That should let us stop worrying about the accuracy of these edits. I know we make a lot of mistakes with biographical data but we're trying to be more and more careful, and this is part of it. I'm sure you can see why it's necessary. More info about the Volunteer Response Team can be found at WP:OTRS.
(Update: I've just seen your earlier correspondence with John. We don't need a scan of your birth certificate to verify your birthplace, since it's not an issue of controversy. As long as we can establish that you are who you say you are, we'll take your word about your birthplace and similar info. We just want to make sure you're not an internet prankster. Sorry for any inconvenience.)
Thanks,
