The article Thornwood, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location. The only significant coverage I could find was this 1905 column talking about a man who ran a cranberry farm at the "village" of Thornwood: [1]. Otherwise only trivial mentions found. This place existed, but without any real information about it, it's not worth an article (post office does not establish notability). Fails WP:GEOLAND. Satellite view today shows a rural area with a few farms, though there is a Thornwood Place and an A. Birss Road, named for the proprietor of the cranberry farm.

The article Cora, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No mention of the place in the local papers during the time it should exist (The Daily Chronicle, The Chehalis Bee-Nugget, The Ledger). The third source (forte) is just a list of post offices, and doesn't provide proof of population center since many postoffices were in rural areas, and had names that weren't always the same as the place. GNIS (source 1) is unreliable for classification of towns. The second source provides 3 refs for this "town" [2] [3] [4]. Those sources don't mention a town of Cora, but a post office called Cora." Further research shows that the Cora post office serviced the Upper Big Bottom area of Lewis county [5] No further sources found.

[edit]

Hey Gilliam!

I would've blanked my talk page, too. Not sure it would matter, but I want to let you know I appreciate all the small community articles you started and how important your work has been in my interest of SW Washington state, where rural towns and communities (like any other similar location in the U.S.) are often overlooked, derided, and therefore forgotten. Opposite of knowledge...sometimes because of a current satellite photo!

With nearly 500k edits to your name, I don't think this would be a nail in the ol' wooden sleep box for you, but please do stick around and continue your efforts. Your work matters.

My thanks,

The article Zindel, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The only source that says populated place is GNIS, which is considered an unreliable source for classification by the WP community. The forte source (2) is a list of post offices. It is well established at AFD that the existence of a post office during this time is not proof of a Town. The third source listed on the article is Meany who wrote that Zindel was a post office in Asotin county. Another place names source [6] doesn't list Zindel. A search of the local papers finds nothing. Google search finds Wikipedia "repeaters", and a couple of further similar sources to Meany that write it's a post office.

The article Forest, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Sources 1,3 (GNIS and Forte) are useless The remaining sources (Meany, Jtenlen, and Election) on inspection reveal nothing but a post office that several unreliable sources including the author of this article have fallaciously assumed that all post offices are towns. Which isn't true. This was a grange district and later an election precinct. People would travel to the post office to get their mail, and so they would say they are from there because others need to know where to address their mail.

The article Swofford, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Meany's (source 3)[7] definition of places is less stringent than Wikipedia's definition, which is legally recognized places. Meany wrote that Swofford (the man) set up a post office in the Swofford valley and later moved it to Mossy Rock. Places don't move, but post offices do (sometimes in shoe boxes). Washington State place names published in 1971 [8] Doesn't list swofford as a place. A rather unreliable source [9], but commonly referenced nonetheless lists this place, but all of the reliable sources used for their mention call it "Swofford Valley". Reading newspapers from the area reveals that the post office served the Swofford valley, and the people who lived in the valley used it's name to define where they lived. The Centralia Daily Chronicle in 1976 (July 1, 1976 Page 31[10]) explains that the valley had a rural farming community with a post office and a drug store. The reality is that these were probably not separate buildings, and it would not be all that unusual for this to actually be Swofford's residence as well. It is not a legally recognized place. Furthermore, it's full name is "Swofford Valley". The confusion arises because post offices in the 1800's could only have one word names. If it can be established this Valley is notable, I'm okay with moving it to Swofford Valley, Washington, or similar.

The article Mora, Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

There is nothing at the site in google maps, aside from Mora road. But since this is a post office it would have been a stop along a "road" that would be the postal route the mail carrier travelled on. The simplest answer for its existence is that it was the road to the post office. The third source on this article states this is just a post office [15] pg 172. Washington State place names doesn't list it separately and is just a repeat of Meany in source 3 above [page 92]. The other sources on the article are not useful for verification a town existed. It's only mentioned twice in passing with no indication it wasn't just a post office in the 2003 history book about the county Clallam [16]. The post office is likely the trading post mentioned in that book. It's worth noting here that trading posts usually were not in populated areas, but at strategic places along well traveled trade routes. So this is actually and indicator this is just a post office. In fact, this source [17] unequivocally makes it clear this was a trading post, it must have also housed the post office, before it moved. It appears on this 1970 map [18] but when compared with google maps (at similar scale) you can see that there couldn't be any streets there, or anything. And Finally, we have this a description of the "town". [19]. As you can see it's just a Guy running a hotel trading post in the woods. Some passing mentions that don't contradict the possibility it's a post office. [20]

A tag has been placed on Category:Census-designated places in Putnam County, Missouri indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. โœ—plicit 14:55, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The article Moon Hill (New York) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NATFEAT. "Named natural features are often notable, provided information beyond statistics and coordinates is known to exist. [...] If a Wikipedia article cannot be developed using known sources, information on the feature can instead be included in a more general article on local geography. For example, a river island with no information available except name and location should probably be described in an article on the river". Non-notable location. GNIS is unreliable, and Lenox said plainly this was just an informal name for a couple of farms that once had a post office (long gone by the time he wrote in 1915). The article Poplar Ridge, Ohio has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location. Existence of a post office does not confer notability, nor does GNIS. Guide to temporary accounts

[edit]

Hello, Gilliam. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer ยง What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences โ†’ Appearance โ†’ Advanced options โ†’ Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Notice

The article Pee Pee Creek has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This page is not only a magnet for vandalism, but I don't think such a small page with little history and sources needs a full page. Additionally, most of the sources are merely just advertising for fishing and dining, and I think that this page should be merged into Pee pee Township

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
