Connection to subject

[edit]

I need to ask, based on your edits, what is your connection to Ógie Ó Ceilleachair? Canterbury Tail talk 19:39, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have no personal connections to Ó Ceilleachair however feel that he needs an article given his significance in the Irish classroom. As a teacher I feel that Ógie has revolutionised easy-to-read Irish. His article is only available in Irish and I think that many would find an English translation useful. GetitDunne (talk) 19:43, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I just wanted to check there was no conflict of interest concerns. Thanks. Canterbury Tail talk 20:00, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Jlwoodwa. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, Elon Musk salute controversy, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. Blocked as a sockpuppet

[edit]
Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively as a sockpuppet of User:JohnPork77 per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/JohnPork77. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

How do I appeal I didn’t do it. Who even is JohnPork77? GetitDunne (talk) 08:38, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Pretending that you don't know what you did is not going to help. Read the instructions starting from If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked to appeal. 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 08:41, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I seriously don’t know. Is there anything apart from appealing I can do? GetitDunne (talk) 14:00, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Describe the evidence you have against me (if any). GetitDunne (talk) 14:44, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WP:GAB explains how to contest your block. The publicly visible evidence is shown at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/JohnPork77. No WP:CHECKUSER data is permitted to be shared. --Yamla (talk) 14:52, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have already looked at the investigation and it seems all the evidence is on JohnPork77,78 and 79. As the accused, surely the Checkuser data could even be at least described to me. Thank you for sharing WP:GAB with me. GetitDunne (talk) 14:57, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to describe CU to you just so you can evade it in the future. I'm sorry that you got caught doing WP:GHBH, but if you want to appeal, I'd say the very initial step is to admit that what you did was wrong. 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 15:00, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I perfectly understand that you can’t disclose the CU. Look I already have an appeal in from an hour ago, could you tell just what links me to the JohnPorks as it isn’t stated clearly in the investigation. GetitDunne (talk) 15:06, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You have zero open unblock requests at this time. You did inappropriately use UTRS, but that request was closed and you were redirected here. --Yamla (talk) 15:21, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What is a UTRS GetitDunne (talk) 15:22, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Yamla just saw you rejected my unblock request and that was what you were talking about. In what way did I abuse the UTRS (Which I presume is the Unblock Ticket Request System) and what ways can I improve my request. GetitDunne (talk) 16:33, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I admit guilt, it was a two man job (My and another mate of mine who ran the JohnPork accounts.) but I was 100% involved. I am a firm believer in punishment for misuse but an indefinite suspension seems slightly harsh. I want to contribute and I have shown an ability to contribute meaningfully in the past. I promise not to create another account to abuse Wikipedia again, I promise to not collaborate with another account to abuse Wikipedia again, I promise to never vandalise any pages I previously vandalised (e.g Cockhill Celtic, I apologise to the people of Cockhill for any offence I caused by trying to justify the unfair linking of the founder of Celtic to Anarchism, Pan-Celticism and other practices and I promise that if I’m caught abusing Wikipedia again that I will immediately admit. I apologise for not admitting the full truth immediately after my block. I promise to abide by the Wikipedia guidelines in my future uses of Wikipedia. I hope you either unblock me or shorten the length of the ban.

I am very sorry that this appeal isn’t brief or even neatly formatted and I will submit it again if it an eyesore to anyone reading.GetitDunne (talk) 16:56, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I recommend taking the standard offer. You're welcome to edit on other projects (Simple English Wikipedia, Commons, etc) in the meantime. -- asilvering (talk) 22:22, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Can I upload to Wikipedia Commons or other language Wikipedias when I’m banned on English Wikipedia . GetitDunne (talk) 18:29, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You are not banned, you are blocked indefinitely. And only on en.wikipedia.org. This block does not affect other projects. You'll want to avoid abusing multiple accounts on other projects, of course. --Yamla (talk) 18:31, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. GetitDunne (talk) 20:37, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am still skeptical of the whole thing of GetitDunne being a different person who got "used" (per this) by JohnPork79 & co. I don't know what the point is to try to make it seem like your GHBH was done with less bad faith than it was.
CU hat on: technical evidence strongly suggests that GetitDunne and JohnPork79 have been operated by the same person. Other CUs can feel free to check that (since I'm the new kid when it comes to CU), but I'm quite confident. 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 14:18, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We share a computer and an iPad. I don’t think there is anything in it for me at this stage to lie about me and JohnPork. We are different people but are equally accountable as sockpupeters. I already know that you as a CU know every IP address that I used for Wikipedia which is my phone and the shared iPad (Haven’t used the computer yet for Wikipedia) and I pretty sure I let who you only should know as JohnPork (unless you want his real name) use my phone when his died (I dunno if he used it for vandalising Wikipedia)
I understand your suspicions but I don’t think it benefits me to lie about the situation given how much you know (for all I’m concerned you could have my full online footprint or even where I work). I am aware I may not get the account back for as long as six months and am willing to wait that long if my appeal be rejected. GetitDunne (talk) 14:48, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that. That probably makes things clearer. I'll leave this case to another checkuser to consider. 0xDeadbeef→∞ (talk to me) 14:56, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all the help. I wish you luck on your future endeavours GetitDunne (talk) 15:00, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Block appeal Time

[edit]

How long does it usually take for a block appeal to be answered? And can a Sockpuppet become unbanned but the Sockpuppet master account not be unbanned?GetitDunne (talk) 10:33, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GetitDunne, it can take a while, frequently weeks, because there's a large backlog. In your case, given that there was sock/meat-puppeting using multiple accounts and then lying about it, it's very likely that an unblock won't be considered quickly and following the WP:STANDARD would represent a more realistic possibility of an unblock. An indefinite block rather than a timed one is typical here as it's an extremely serious breach of trust with the community. Whatever you choose, I wish you good fortune. CoffeeCrumbs (talk) 11:03, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification GetitDunne (talk) 12:43, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Standard Offer

[edit]

Following my indefinite block and my failed attempt to be unblocked, I will be going inactive on my Wikipedia account for the period of six months. I will still be contributing to Wikimedia Commons but not as active as my Wikipedia account (Or maybe not at all I’ve never really had a nack for photography . I promise to not attempt any sort of block evasion or sockpuppetry for the six months. I hope to regain community trust after this period and you can still contact me from the talk page. (Also if I need an admin or CU for this whole standard let me know as it was not specified on the essay.) Also if someone could look after the Ógie Ó Ceilleachair draft that would be amazing since I worked quite hard on it. GetitDunne (talk) 23:18, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @Canterbury Tail for removing the vandal’s comments. Do you know why this could happen or if it’s just a random attack? Just wondering because it seems strangely and oddly specific that a random IP would go after me in particular. I know that he said Free Palestine which is a little strange since I have edited on Wikipedia pages concerning Palestine or Israel. Just wondering since I found it all a bit odd.
