Help me!

[edit]

Please help me with... I edited the Page on MY GRANDFATHER, the late "WILLIAM J FLYNN",today. I'm confused as it says the edits won't show up until they are reviewed. But then it states Wiki has no actual editors. Who will decide in this case? I assure you I know all about my own Grandfather and am Co Author of the only Book on him that I was able to write sections about him myself , titled" America's Sherlock Holmes , the life and Times of William J Flynn" by Jonathon Gregory Reed and William Flynn Sanders ( Me ). When will the edits become visible I did here. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=William_J._Flynn&oldid=1288571115 Fonjerng8 (talk) 20:50, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rest in peace to your grandfather.
1. "Who will decide this case?"
Well even though Wikipedia does not have any formal and officially committed editors, it has many experienced editors who are familiar with the policy of Wikipedia. They will make sure your grandfathers article is in accordance to Wikipedia's guidelines. Now what are Wikipedia's guidelines? Well it sure does have a lot, which you can see in the below welcome template. The ones that apply to your edit are conflict of interest, verifiability and original research. You may not bother reading all of these articles, but basically anyone can edit on Wikipedia. To make sure that Wikipedia isn't full of a bunch of junk, we need rules. We need to make sure that it Wikipedia has no original research because Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a research journal. We need it to be verifiable because otherwise we can't tell right from wrong. Wikipedia is so strong about this rule that they prioritize verifiability over truth. The last one is conflict of interest. You already know what this is, Wikipedia wants to have a neutral, but weighted, point of view on every topic so they don't allow people close to the subject at hand write. Otherwise we would have every biography being full of praise, and empty of value.
Not all hope is lost though, if you want to contribute to your grandfathers article and make it really, really good, then you can. What you need to do is to follow Wikipedia's guidelines, which means that you have to provide reliable sources for all the information that you add to your grandfathers article. You also need to declare a conflict of interest in your edit summary, but if you follow guidelines that is just a formality.
Happy editing! Please also see the welcome template that I send to you, it will allow you to familiarize yourself with many of Wikipedia's guidelines and do not fear to reply to this message for further clarification. Easternsahara (talk) 21:30, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you . Well I added the recent book written by Jonathon Gregory Reed as well as myself as my source which contains 243 pages of backup documents , old newspaper articles and photographs.Every other book written about him or that contains major information on him obtained most of what they wrote from me but cherry picked what they used from me which included Dashes Book which was on the Mafia and Simons which was on My Grandfather but he left out some very important things . With Reeds recent book I got to have published the full story and more documentation and I left out nothing . That aside I guess I still have a question. How long do my edits remain in Limbo hoping someone else will look and approve them. What if they dont ? Will it stay in Limbo for ever ? I do fear people with far less information than me from being a family member whose mother was the family Historian as well , will read some other false info and then decide mine is not correct Im 74 years old and have been living this history since i was a small child .As one example some places list him as the third Director of the Bureau of investigation . if one looks they will see two peoples name before his . So it would be a good guess to assume that it must be false and he was the third Director, but that's the actual thing that's false . The two people before him were not given and did not carry the official designation of DIRECTOR which was given ONLY to him when the agency was completely changed in its function and revamped into the worlds largest Federal police force and newspaper articles in the book from the time lay that out . So not to be blunt but I am the worlds leading authority on My Grandfather which is why every single Author who mentioned him primarily came to me for information. So you can see why I might be dubious just anyone can decide not to approve my accurate information if they just don't like it or did not know about it . Ill hope for the best . I do think you should contact the moderator who reversed your edit User:discospinster and just copy paste this text on his talk page. Your edits should not stay in limbo any longer. I believe if they are then an admin, discospinster, can help you with that. As long as you provide reliable, secondary sources which back up what you put on the article, they should not be reverted anymore. Easternsahara (talk) 23:11, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I just did as soon as you open it ot says if you came here to complain I removed your edit why dont you list a source !! But in my case I listed the 246 page ISBN numberded Book of proof by Name and authors as number 11 in the sources and by name in the text . I asked what more does he want ????
