Welcome!

Hello, F.lynn, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! I have nominated Canadian Association of Construction, Maintenance and Allied Workers (CMAW), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Canadian Association of Construction, Maintenance and Allied Workers (CMAW). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Irbisgreif (talk) 20:41, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Because your account was used for promotion of a company, group, product or organization with a username that promotes or implies affiliation with the aforementioned. This includes, but is not limited to: adding spam links, creating promotional pages (this includes user pages), adding advertisements to existing articles, and adding promotional/favorable content about something you are affiliated with.

Use of Wikipedia for promotion of people, products, companies or other groups (even non-commercial or charitable ones) is considered Spam and is forbidden. Such actions will result in the blocking of the account involved. Please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for our policies about this.

In addition, user accounts are for individuals only, not for companies or groups or other collective editing. Your username should reflect this. Usernames that appear to be promotional (such as those that make reference to a company or product) violate our username policy and are typically blocked to enforce that policy.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Tell us what new username you want to use. Please make sure that your new username does not violate our username policy and check that it has not already been taken (click here to search).
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If instead you believe that you have been blocked by mistake (i.e., you have not in fact been using Wikipedia for promotional purposes), please write {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this message box and replace the text "Your reason here" with the reason why. See also Wikipedia:Appealing a block for more information. Cirt (talk) 21:35, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Hi Gang, looks like we have a number of issues to deal with, the first of which is that my username reflect my company rather than me as an individual. So why don't we set me up with a new username, and then I can take the next steps. New requested username is: F.lynn

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. Please apply for a new username using the template {{unblock-un}}. Please also answer the question below, bearing in mind that you will not be allowed to make edits about your own company. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 13:57, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to F.lynn (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking.

Unblocking administrator: Please check for active autoblocks on this user after accepting the unblock request.

What types of edits do you plan to making after being unblocked? lifebaka++ 21:12, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My immediate plan is to edit the page that I initially posted. I shall give it a re-write to attempt to reflect a more neutral point of view, and I shall endeavour to cite more references for the article. I'll also make an argument for the notability of the article and I'll wikify the article.

After that article is all happy, I plan to get my hands dirty cleaning up and adding articles for other labour unions in British Columbia.

Just to quote a previous unblock request by Anthony.bradbury: "Please also answer the question below, bearing in mind that you will not be allowed to make edits about your own company". – B.hoteptalk13:54, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Quite right, B.hotep, but in all likelihood, Foley Design is something distinct from the Canadian Association of Construction, Maintenance and Allied Workers. To the user: I think that plan is okay, provided you agree to abide by community consensus and not push the issue if the page ends up being deleted. From your username and the article you posted it seems as if you are writing on behalf of a client. If that's the case, please be aware that this is treated as if you were actually writing about your own company and you would be expected to be cautious in making revisions, as informed by our policy Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. If not, it would be critical in any case to abide by the community's decision on the article you wrote. Mangojuicetalk 14:29, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Mangojuice is correct, I am attempting to walk a fine line between publishing an article about a client and maintaining the standards of the wikipedia project. I realize there is resistance within the community to folks like me, but ultimately I think I can publish something that will satisfy all involved. Foleydesign (talk) 18:28, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, sorry, I didn't mean to quote back what had already been said without adding that Foley Design designed and maintains the Canadian Association of Construction, Maintenance and Allied Workers website so would qualify under the same rules of conflict of interest. What I said and meant to say were quite different. Thank you, MJ, for ironing that out. :) – B.hoteptalk22:18, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As previously stated, I'm completely aware of the COI issues at play, and I'll do my best to edit the article to be as factual and verifiable as possible. Can we move on to changing my username so that I can do so please? Foleydesign (talk) 23:42, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
