You ever coming back to English WikiNews?

[change source]

just curious, @Darkfrog24: BigKrow (talk) 21:54, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

I might if the spirit moves. Why do you ask?
With events as they are stateside, the public needs a non-paywalled neutral news source more than ever. Alternative facts indeed. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:55, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Darkfrog24, just Wikinews needs more help right now more than ever, thanks. BigKrow (talk) 21:57, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
...and you couldn't contact me over there because I shut off my Wikinews talk page notifications a long time ago. Anything in particular going wrong or just low participation? Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:59, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Darkfrog24, low participating. BigKrow (talk) 22:02, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hm. I have ideas about how to fix poor drafter retention, but I'm less dialed in to Wikinews' workings than I was a few years ago. Darkfrog24 (talk) 22:16, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

wikinews:China resumes deportation of refugees back to North Korea; North_Korean_defectors; Thanks for this, I really appreciate! "Don't use Wikinews as a source. I write for Wikinews and I still think you shouldn't use it. If a Wikinews article has information that you think is good, go into the article's sources and use those. We need you back...

[change source]

Any chance Wikinews you will be coming back in near future? Doing badly... @Darkfrog24: BigKrow (talk) 16:06, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to invite me to help on any specific article that you think could benefit from my work.
I think Wikinews' problems could be mitigated with some systemic changes. We have to stop driving off capable drafters. Darkfrog24 (talk) 16:43, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
ok, thanks. BigKrow (talk) 16:43, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
You know my take: A big part of the problem in the stretch of years when I was most active was that reviewers fetishized their position and it often felt like they were ordering me around for kicks. There were times when I could prove that I was right and the reviewer was wrong, and this was treated like a huge deal no matter how politely I phrased it. One way to solve this problem is to require reviewers to split review into two sections, those that are required for publication (which must be linkable to a posted Wikinews policy or precedent) and all other suggestions/beliefs about what changes should be made, which must be treated as optional.
Another part of the problem is just Wikinews' basic structure. Most new drafters write a few crummy articles before getting good at Wikinews' way of doing things. A lot of people get discouraged and don't stick around. One way to deal with this would be to downplay the idea of single authorship and normalize coming in and continuing an article that someone else has started.
These are reactions to the way things worked when I was most active on Wikinews. It's possible that its problems have changed since then. What do you think? Darkfrog24 (talk) 13:39, 26 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi darkfrog24

[change source]

Hey, I’ve come across a few of your frog articles while editing random pages, and they’ve been fun to contribute to :) 80.233.37.5 (talk) 13:32, 11 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Most excellent! That is Project Wiki at its best. Every once in the while, we have an edit-a-thon, and I think we did endangered animals at one point. Learned all about the marsh crake and different kinds of kiwi birds. Darkfrog24 (talk) 16:18, 11 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I only came across one of your articles, it was on Ghatixalus Magnus. Possibly the best article I have read on Simple English Wikipedia. I just like to click the random article button as I have found many pages on Simple English Wikipedia are lacking important facts or that these facts have been lost when simplifying. So I, another random user with no account, enjoy your work.
Just gonna tack this on at the end here, the “Home” part in the article about the elevation and mountains Ghatixalus Magnus lives in could probably be constructed better. Probably not the place to put this, but it’s where I’m putting it. 2601:985:4003:7E20:4DF9:E16A:EB9E:4BB9 (talk) 20:12, 9 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

RfD nomination of Timeline of the far future

[change source]

An editor has requested deletion of Timeline of the far future, a page you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the page meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2025/Timeline of the far future and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the page during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the page; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. List of Indian state amphibians

[change source]

Hi! Just an FYI. A user created List of Indian state amphibians which has quite a few red links that you may want to fix since you're the frog guy. :) fr33kman 14:54, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Fr33kman You deleted it. 204.195.97.109 (talk) 15:07, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Nope. It's back now. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:23, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Some of these articles are already here on SEWP under different names. Bufo himalayanus just needed a redirect to the current name, Duttaphrynus himalayanus. Scientists often reevaluate species and reassign them to different genera. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:23, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I got all the froggies, but Ichthyophis meghalayensis is pulling zilch on the principal amphibian sources. Can you tell me where you saw this? EDIT: I have posted on the talk page of the anonymous user who drafted List of Indian state amphibians. Darkfrog24 (talk) 11:51, 23 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
