Extra variables

[edit]

{{edit protected}} CommonsDelinker has new variables. See m:User:CommonsDelinker#Replacements. Please change the page accordingly. Bryan 21:50, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you be more specific? I don't have a clue what you're talking about, but maybe somebody else will. - auburnpilot talk 17:18, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not comfortable with adding the new $3 and $4 because, looking at their description, they are not always available. Unless the bot knows how to suppress wording other than the deletion / replacement variables, we would end up with edit summaries like "Replacing Image:File1.png with Image:File2.png (deleted by because )." which isn't pretty. Prettiness doesn't seem to be the greatest concern to me. —Ruud 06:44, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shortening the summary to allow a longer reflection of the deletion reason

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Hello, please change the text of this page to: "Replacing $1 with [[File:$2]] (by [[commons:User:$3|$3]] because: $4).". This has the following reasons:

  1. The first file mentioned in the summary usually gets deleted as a duplicate, and the link to it turns red, which makes it useless to click on it (example)
  2. While the most reasons are usually short ("Incorrectly named" or "exact, or scaled-down duplicate"), they sometimes need to be longer (for example linking to a page that explains the renaming of a file). The change would only give 11 characters more, but they're necessary sometimes, for example when linking and the summary isn't long enough, then something like [[commons:Linked page|The link tit appears as reason, which isn't good.
  3. Minor thing only, but the image namespace furthermore is no longer called "image", but "file".
Done *Hi Evil IP, I've completed your request, partially. I see no issue with removing the first link and appreciate its redundancy. User:RockMFR completed the third part of your request yesterday. Maedin\talk 17:12, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
