Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. [1] MrOllie (talk) 20:31, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

MrOllie, I don't think that link (regarding Richard Johnson) was inappropriate as it was the citation for that sentence, that included Richard Johnson as developing the ACA (Adaptive conjoint analysis) method of Conjoint analysis. The link did not to go a website page that was marketing any material. Rather it was going to an online pdf version of the documentation where Richard Johnson discusses the ACA method. This in no way is meant to attract visitors or promote any product as the webpage literally only shows the pdf. If that is not the correct way to cite that line about Richard Johnson, what is? Either way the line about Richard Johnson should be included whether the citation is there or not. But is is good practice to have citations isn't it? You are the latest in a string of accounts and IPs that have been pushing to link to sawtoothsoftware.com and to add promotional mentions of it and its principals. If this keeps up I think it is very likely the domain in question will end up on Wikipedia's spam blacklist. Are you affiliated with Sawtooth software? - MrOllie (talk) 20:43, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am not affiliated with Sawtooth Software. I am not trying to promote them but rather give credit were credit is due. It's not hard to believe that people would want to mention sawtooth in this article, they have probably been the company that has been around the longest and most actively works in/on conjoint analysis. Is it incorrect to mention Richard Johnson and his work developing ACA? Yes he was a founder of Sawtooth but there are other companies that use ACA as a method. Should I do with without the citation? Like you said the links provide no SEO incentive because of Wikipedia's nofollow attributes. How should I go about this? Choiceanalytics (talk) 20:00, 23 September 2020 (UTC)Choiceanalytics[reply]
If there are reliable, independent references, maybe a mention is warranted. But people talking him up at a conference he is sponsoring is obviously not independent. - MrOllie (talk) 20:08, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
