Nautical Mile

[edit]

There's two things being conflated here.

  1. Symbols for the nautical mile were adopted well before the ISO tried to create a uniform set of symbols. I'm quite certain that the ISO would prefer us to all use km, but even they have had to accept that the unit is too essential to be legislated out of existence.
  2. Since even you admit that a knot-hour is never used, what is the point of mentioning it? You could measure the distance from Washington to New York in (mile per hour)-hours, but why? I've certainly never come across a knot-hour in any skipper's text book or exam. I doubt that aircraft use it either. Searching with DuckDuckGo returns no instances of it, so I'm forced to assume that it is something you've invented. If you can find any WP:RS references to a knot-hour (except the antiquated Admiralty definition mentioned in the body of the article), then please replace it with appropriate citations.
