Direct, reliable sources needed for Days of the Year pages
[edit]You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct reliable sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Almost all new additions without references are now being reverted on-sight.
Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages.

Hello, I'm Joyous!. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Johann Strauss I, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. This doesn't mean the material can't be added to the article, but it will need to be cited to a reliable source. Joyous! Noise! 20:03, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
- Oh hi! I just copied from the Johann Strauss II page except I changed the phrase to reflect that. Borges123xyz (talk) 20:06, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Symphony No. 39 (Haydn), without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources to see how to add references to an article. Thank you. Graham87 (talk) 03:19, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- The source is the "List of symphonies by Joseph Haydn" page. Borges123xyz (talk) 16:54, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- I assumed that is the definitive source for the dating of the symphonies. Borges123xyz (talk) 17:01, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a source for its own content. Also, blogs are not reliable sources on Wikipedia, per your more recent edit there. Graham87 (talk) 02:46, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- So what is the source for the current dating? Borges123xyz (talk) 02:54, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- There isn't one in that article. Graham87 (talk) 13:56, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- I've just added one; it's the highest-quality recent source I could find quickly with a date attached. I've also added it to the List of symphonies by Joseph Haydn and changed the date there, so the two pages match. Graham87 (talk) 14:20, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Karl Geiringer, in his critical biography, has 1767 as the date for this symphony. And that makes more sense in terms of when Haydn's "Sturm und Drang" period began. 1765 is too early. Borges123xyz (talk) 16:36, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking. I'd be inclined to trust the source I found more, just because the Karl Geiringer one is not so recent. Feel free to take this up at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Classical music to get more opinions, if you feel so inclined. Graham87 (talk) 02:35, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
