Hello. Per WP:COMMONNAME we use the common name in English, i.e. whatever name that is most commonly used in English language media worldwide, and do not change names just because an Indian state, or the Indian government, says so. It took ten years for Bombay to be changed to Mumbai here, because that's how long it took for the common name in English to change, and we still use Bangalore, instead of Bengaluru, since the common name in English hasn't changed, and perhaps never will change. So stop trying to change "Allahabad" to "Prayagraj", when the common name in English language media worldwide has changed, the name will be changed here too, but not until then. And please note that Wikipedia is an international English language encyclopaedia, registered and headquartered in the United States, not an Indian English language encyclopaedia, so we're not bound by Indian laws and government decrees. Thank you. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 17:39, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
Name Change Saga
[edit]Hi, Mr. Thomas, So you are talking about change of name of Allahabad to Prayagraj. According to you, the name is not changed yet but I gave you the link of news channels where you can check that it has been officially changed so stop editing the fact and plus it is Encyclopedia and not Encyclopaedia ... huhh Anshukmitra123 (talk) 16:04, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
- A) The name change isn't official until approved by the Government of India, which could take quite some time (it took eight years, from 2006 to 2014, for new names for a number of cities and towns in Karnataka to be approved by the Union Home Minister...).
- B) Encyclopaedia is the correct way to spell the word in both British and Indian English, while encyclopedia is the spelling used in the US. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 16:21, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
