St Matthias' Church, Stoke Newington
[edit]Well - please read the West London Observer of 19 October 1867 and of 26 October 1867. Please look at the primary sources!
@80.43.72.126: this is part-available behind a per-page paywall. But not for the date you suggest. How did you find this? Nick Levine (talk) 08:17, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
Anti Ritualist riots (High Church) were common in Victorian London. They happened at St George's in the East, St Stephen's Pimlico, St Paul Knightsbridge and St Barnabas Pimlico among others. As such these were important manifestations of the popular English view of themselves (ie Protestant, supposedly freedom loving and fearing an authoritarian fifth column in the Anglican Church). FYI these come from the British Newspaper Archive. The 19th October 1867 article is on page 4 and the 26th October 1867 article is on page 2.
Ok. Some suggestions:
1. Link from yr paragraph to Ritualism in the Church of England
2. Add page numbers (and URLs if possible) to the citations
3. Don’t forget to end talk page messages with ~~~~ so it’s clear who’s talking and when.
