Deleting File:Profile Photo of Nadia Cheaib dated December 2016.png
I have just emailed the proof of permission to use the deleted file to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. Is it possible to reverse the deletion, or I have to upload the file again? Thanks for your time. A rihani (talk) 09:23, 17 January 2017 (UTC)(talk)

I must be quite intolerant this day after cleaning up other crap around the places. I find the user's lack of communication and continued upload behaviour unacceptable. I have smacked a block on the user and believe that they 1) need to talk, and 2) get some guidance prior to resuming uploads. I said to the user that I would remove if they agree to those conditions, and I mentioned the teahouse, rather than the talk page, though I am willing to compromise. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:59, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- No worries @Billinghurst:, I was close to doing that myself :)--5 albert square (talk) 23:05, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Future changes
Tidy will be replaced later this year. Instead, the HTML 5 parsing algorithm will be used to clean up bad HTML in wikitext. This will cause problems on a number of wikis. They need to be fixed first. You can see if your wiki still has something to fix here for one of the HTML problems. This list does not cover all problems. You can read about more problems. [9][10]

Hi there. I think you were mistaken with your response to this unprotect request. True, Dabomb87 has not edited since 2014 but he only restored the protection after the PC trial. The actual admin who semi-protected the page was BorgQueen who is still active. Not saying the change was a mistake but BorgQueen might have wanted to be involved. Regards SoWhy 10:06, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, ah thanks, the log is quite long for that page and I must have mis-read it. It can be changed back if necessary, I don't mind :)--5 albert square (talk) 13:08, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
- As I said, I think you were correct regarding the protection change. You might want to give BorgQueen a little heads-up though that you changed it although I doubt they will disagree. Regards SoWhy 13:15, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
- I have :)--5 albert square (talk) 15:15, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Removal of offensive username
I saw on recent changes that you removed a username that was offensive - FYI, it is also included in this edit summary. Home Lander (talk) 00:58, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

Is fighting over this minor addition to a page something worth fighting for? It's a single sentence which I think adds to the page. I've been a loyal member since 2011 and assure you I'm not just spamming. Thanks! - Scottwindcrest (talk) 23:57, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, I haven't mentioned anything about spamming so I'm confused as to where that came from. We go by consensus on Wikipedia, there is a discussion on the talk page not to include this. Anyway, the correct place to discuss this is Talk: Meg Griffin so everyone can see the discussion, not my talk page :)--5 albert square (talk) 00:09, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- I understand you're the admin and it's your choice, I'm just saying is all. And, yes, I'll move this to Meg's talk page. :) - Scottwindcrest (talk) 00:43, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- Just FYI I mentioned the spamming thing because I didn't want you to think I'm not serious about editing. I've been here for going on six years and don't just mess with pages arbitrarily. :) - Scottwindcrest (talk) 01:02, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

EventStreams is a new way to show activity on Wikimedia wikis. For now it works with the recent changes feed. It will do more things later. It will replace RCStream. Tools that use RCStream should move to EventStreams before 7 July. [11]
Problems
- The Firefox add-on Firefogg can cause problems with the Upload Wizard. This will not be fixed, because Firefox will not support Firefogg in the future. The Upload Wizard will no longer work with Firefogg. [12]
- Tool Labs and Wikimedia Labs databases will be under maintenance on 15 February. This will start at 17:00 (UTC) and last for about six hours. Some tools could have problems during or after this. [13]
Changes this week
- The TwoColConflict extension is a new way to solve edit conflicts. It makes it easier to copy and paste the relevant text to the text field. It will come to Meta and German Wikipedia this week. It is already available on MediaWiki.org. It will come to more wikis later. [14]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 February. It will be on all wikis from 16 February (calendar).

Future changes
- Page Previews will be turned on for logged-out users on the Catalan, Greek, Russian, and Italian Wikipedias in the middle of February. Page Previews shows readers a short part of a linked article when they rest their mouse pointer on the link. This is to help them understand what it is about without leaving the article they are reading. Page Previews used to be called Hovercards. It will come to more wikis later this spring. [15]
The Developer Wishlist is a list where developers prioritize tools they need. The voting closes at 14 February 23:59 (UTC). This process is only for developers.
Review
- You can read the 2016 product summary from the Wikimedia Foundation Product group to see what they did with things they said they would work on in the annual plan.

Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News
Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News
![]() Hello everyone, and welcome to the February 2017 GOCE newsletter. The Guild has been busy since the last time your coordinators sent out a newsletter! December blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 December; the themes were Requests and eliminating the November 2015 backlog. Of the 14 editors who signed up, nine editors completed 29 articles. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all who took part. January drive: The January drive was a great success. We set out to remove December 2015 and January and February 2016 from our backlog (195 articles), and by 22 January we had cleared those and had to add a third month (March 2016). At the end of the month we had almost cleared out that last month as well, for a total of 180 old articles removed from the backlog! We reduced our overall backlog by 337 articles, to a low of 1,465 articles, our second-lowest month-end total ever. We also handled all of the remaining requests from December 2016. Officially, 19 editors recorded 337 copy edits (over 679,000 words). February blitz: The one-week February blitz, focusing on the remaining March 2016 backlog and January 2017 requests, ran from 12 to 18 February. Seven editors reduced the total in those two backlog segments from 32 to 10 articles, leaving us in good shape going in to the March drive. Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 stepped aside as lead coordinator, remaining as coordinator and allowing Miniapolis to be the lead, and Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators. Thanks to all who participated! Speaking of coordinators, congratulations to Jonesey95 on their well-deserved induction into the Guild of Copy Editors Hall of Fame. The plaque reads: "For dedicated service as lead coordinator (2014, 1 July – 31 December 2015 and all of 2016) and coordinator (1 January – 30 June 2015 and 1 January – 30 June 2017); exceptional template-creation work (considerably streamlining project administration), and their emphasis on keeping the GOCE a drama-free zone." Housekeeping note: We do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your watchlist. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Miniapolis, Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.
