[edit] Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Melissa Disney. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Destinyokhiria (talk) 20:06, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Please use citation templates
[edit] Hello! Thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia, such as adding references as you did in this edit on Cracked.com! However, adding a bare URL is not ideal, and exposes the reference to link rot. It is preferable to use proper citation templates when citing sources, including details such as title, author, date, and any other information necessary for a bibliographic citation.
Also, please be careful not to remove citation details as you did in this edit on Cookies and cream.
Here's how I fixed it, using the {{cite web}}
template: I put the URL you added as the archive-url
, and added back the previous details including title
and access-date
. I also added the required archive-date
.
{{cite web |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180413002500/https://www.sdstate.edu/dairy-and-food-science/history-sdsu-ice-cream |archive-date=2018-04-13 |url=https://www.sdstate.edu/dairy-and-food-science/history-sdsu-ice-cream |title=History of SDSU Ice Cream |url-status=dead |website=Sdstate.edu |access-date=2018-08-15}}
This displays under References as:
- "History of SDSU Ice Cream". Sdstate.edu. Archived from the original on 2018-04-13. Retrieved 2018-08-15.
If you've already added one or more bare URLs to an article, there are tools available to expand them into full citations: in the wikitext editor, try the reFill tool, and in the Visual Editor, the reference dialog can convert some bare urls into a full citation.
By the way, if you're the same person who edited the page Buckwheat Boyz yesterday, your IP address has changed, so you might not have seen the message I left you on your previous talk page. Your full list of contributions can be found under your IP's /64 range.
Again, thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! — W.andrea (talk) 23:56, 7 May 2025 (UTC) edited 13:59, 8 May
