"Gardenscapes" Origins of the Term
[edit]In 1984, the United Kingdom faced significant unemployment, prompting many to seek alternative career paths. During this time, the government introduced the Enterprise Allowance Scheme, an initiative designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs start their own businesses.
Recognising the opportunity, Michael Moorhouse[1] applied for the scheme and successfully enrolled after presenting a structured business strategy. As part of the business setup process, Michael Moorhouse conducted extensive searches through trademark records,[2] industry directories, and dictionaries to find a unique trading name. During this research, the term "Gardenscapes" was not identified as a registered trademark or commonly used phrase. Seizing the opportunity, they officially adopted the name and began trading under it.
Over time, "Gardenscapes[3]" became synonymous with artistic and functional garden transformations, influencing landscaping trends and industry terminology. The concept gained traction in various sectors, including urban landscaping, residential garden design, and digital applications related to garden aesthetics.
