Read the Docs is a hosting solution for software documentation. It supports Sphinx documentation written with reStructuredText or Mkdocs documentation written in Markdown. It can pull the documentation from Subversion, Bazaar, Git, and Mercurial repositories.
Hosting on the Read the Docs servers is free for open-source projects. In October 2014, the project launched a separate business site for hosting private documentation. [1]
Project background
[edit]The initial version of Read the Docs was created during a 2010 programming contest. [2] The project is written mostly in Python and is itself open source.
