Canrig Drilling Technology Ltd., is an oilfield manufacturing and services company specializing in drilling equipment and drilling software. Canrig’s products include top drives, automated catwalks, floor wrenches, control systems, drawworks, and casing running tools. Its software products include EDR systems, reporting and data warehousing, and drilling optimization software. Its headquarters are located in Houston, Texas.
History
[edit]Canrig was founded in 1981 in Calgary, Canada, as CDEL (Canada Drilling Equipment Limited), focused on developing a fully automated drilling rig.
In 1985 the company changed its name to Canadian Rig Limited and Alan Richards became President. At that time the company had already developed a PLC controlled drilling cabin.
Between 1984 and 1987 Canadian Rig Ltd. partnered with Spartan Drilling to operate the rig they owned. In 1986 the rig was commissioned and modified. It was a slant rig from 45 to 90 degrees that used an electric power swivel.
In 1988, the company designed and built its first top drive leading to the release of top drive serial number 1. This top drive is still in use in the field today.
In 1997, Canrig merged with Epoch Well Services which allowed Canrig to more closely integrate software solutions with its line of hardware tools.
In 2006, Canrig acquired Pragma Drilling Equipment Ltd. and expanded its product line to include an automated power catwalk and Torq-Matic automated floor wrench.
In 2011, Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) awarded Canrig the "Spotlight on Technology Award" for its SureGrip® Ball-and-Pocket Gripping Technology used in its casing running tool.[1][2][3]
In November 2012, Canrig partnered with Oiltech Group (OTG), an oil services company to expand its product offerings for both offshore and onshore rig equipment to include derricks, pipe handling equipment, subsea handling equipment, and riser management tools.

[edit]Canrig's product lines include capital equipment such as Top drive, Drawworks, Torque-Matic™ floor wrench , Automated power catwalk, and SureGrip® Casing Running Tool. Software products include RigWatch®, myWells.com®, Pulse, and ECM. Control Systems such as Control Software, K-Box® Suite, Control Cabin, Power House. Other services provided are Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD), Well logging, RigLine 24/7™. The offer includes drilling performance technologies like ROCKit® and REVit™.
