On August 6, 2011, a NATO Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed in a district of Wardak province, west of Kabul. Military officials have said the helicopter was shot down by Taliban insurgents using a rocket-propelled grenade.[1]
The deaths are thought to represent the largest loss of military lives in a single incident since the war began in 2001.[2]
