Education
[edit]Prof singh obtained his bachelors degree at D.A.V College, Azamgarh in 1978, obtaining a masters from Banaras Hindu University in 1980, and obtained his Ph.D.in 1986 from M. S. University Baroda (Supervisor:Dr. Sukh Dev)(Malti-Chem Research Centre, Nandesari, and Post doctoral from University of British Columbia, Canada 1986 - 1987(Advisor: Professor J. P. Kutney)Harvard University, U.S.A 1987-1990 (Advisor: Professor E. J. Corey, Nobel Laureate). Prof. Singh works in the area of enantioselective reactions and total synthesis. His group has designed several new chiral ligands and has achieved total synthesis of natural products using chiron approach. His contributions to chemistry are well recognized in the form of several awards and honors. He is the recipient of the S.S. Bhatnagar Prize in 2004 and the Swarnajayanti Fellowship in 1998. He is also fellow of several national academies.

[edit]Prof singh is currently Director of [IISER Bhopal].He is Umang Gupta Chair Professor from June 1, 2007 - present and professor at [IIT Kanpur] from September 2001 to date.He is the chairman of NOST Counsil from 2007 to 2010.He was the member of Departmental Faculty Affair Committee (2004-2005), R&D Committee, [IIT Kanpur] (2004-2005), Fast Track Project Evaluation Committee, DST (2003-2005).He was the secretary of International Conference, CBISNF-2004.
