Breaking the Bank
[edit]The simplest and shortest of the games, released in 2008, shows Henry trying to break into a vault in the middle of a desert. The player is only given one selection of six choices, with all but one resulting in failure. The successful option sees Henry successfully getting inside but gets caught by security and is promptly arrested.
Escaping the Prison
[edit]Now locked up, Henry is delivered a package that contains various objects that he tries to use to break out. This game introduces the concept of different endings as while some objects lead to failure, some result in unique ways that Henry can escape, such as stealthily slipping away or being freed by his attorney.
Stealing the Diamond
[edit]Henry discovers a diamond being showcased in a museum, so he decides to break in and steal it to pay off his rent. The game now features many more options that branch off of each other, leading to over 100 fails and six endings.
Infiltrating the Airship
[edit]Henry has been forcefully recruited by the government after stealing the diamond and is tasked to stop the criminal organization, the Toppat Clan. He's dropped off and assisted by the government's pilot, Charles, as he navigates through the Toppats' airship. The initial four-way choice is the main source of the routes resulting in each ending, with only one branching off towards the end. Across the four endings, Henry either successfully steals information or turns in the Toppats' leader, defies the government and steals a ruby from the Toppats, or is offered to become the Toppats' leader, while there is also a fake ending where Henry steals a teddy bear by accident.
Fleeing the Complex
[edit]Henry now finds himself locked up in The Wall, a large-scale maximum security prison run by its ruthless warden. Henry is able to successfully escape either through the help of a fellow inmate, Ellie Rose (although Henry can choose to abandon her), forcefully break out and presumed dead, or get help from either the Toppats or the government, however the former results in the previous Toppat leader dropping Henry to his death to seize control.
Completing the Mission
[edit]The most complex game in the series, Completing the Mission was released in 2020 as part of The Henry Stickmin Collection, and is locked until the player completes both Infiltrating the Airship and Fleeing the Complex. Unlike the other games, CtM's story is heavily reliant on those two games endings, as different combinations will result in a unique plot. The overall story is that the Toppat Clan is planning to launch an orbital space station to continue their crimes, while the government wants to halt the launch or destroy the station when its in space. Based on the previous games endings, Henry either helps the Toppat Clan successfully launch, helps the government to take them down, or exploit both sides for his own personal gain. Some combinations of endings are not able to be selected since their events would contradict, such as if Henry is helped by Charles to escape The Wall even if he previously disobeyed the government and sided with the Toppats.
