From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coinfloor is a London-based Bitcoin exchange.[1] It distinguishes itself from other exchanges on the grounds that it is venture capital-backed and aims to be as clean as possible from money laundering and other nefarious activities.[2][3][4] By allowing direct conversion between bitcoins and the British Pound (sterling), it also aims to reduce the inconvenience of a two-step conversion that people holding the sterling used to have to go through.[4] It is backed by Passion Capital as well as Transferwise founder Taavet Hinrikus.[2]

History

[edit]

The launch of Coinfloor was announced in late October 2013, with Coinfloor registering in October 29, 2013 in the United Kingdom with the aim of beginning trading on November 5, 2013.[2][5][6][3][7]

Trading was originally scheduled to begin November 5, 2013 but got delayed.[4]

Reception

[edit]

Initial media coverage in late October 2013, following Coinfloor's registration, focused on how its venture capital backing and the use of strict entry controls to prevent money laundering could help it succeed and make Bitcoin trading more mainstream.[2][3][4][7]

In January 2014, Coinfloor was mentioned in some articles about the pros and cons and projected future trends for trading in Bitcoin.[8][9]
