Nazia Andaleeb Preema is a prolific and provocative artist living and working between London and Dhaka. She is the chairperson of Preema Arte Foundation and President of Women in Leadership. Her practice traverses the relationship between abstraction and reality. Preema challenges stereotypical mindset of femininity, identity and women’s sexuality. From abstract painting to figurative performance her works investigates the possibilities of creating a subjective context using visual imagery. She exhibited her body of works in many acclaimed international platforms like 58th Venice Biennale, Florence Biennale, Dubai Biennale, Asian Art Biennale, Art Basel Miami etc. She advocates for women empowerment and deeply passionate about strategic movement to achieve her goal through her creative practice.

Early life
[edit]Andaleeb enrolled in the Institute of Fine Arts at University of Dhaka, earning her BFA (Bachelor of Fine Art) degree in 1998 after her SSC (1989) and HSC (1991) from Holy Cross School and College. She went on to receive her Master’s degree in Fine Art (Drawing and Painting) from the same institute at University of Dhaka in 2000. In addition, she obtained a diploma (7 years/1990-1997) on Classical Music and Tagore Songs from the renowned music school, Chhayanaut from Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has been awarded numerous prestigious grants for visual arts and leadership. She did an honorable fellowship at Global Arts Village, New Delhi in 2005. Andaleeb, at the age of 14, accomplished a five years dance (Classical/Bharatanatyam) degree from BAFA, an acclaimed dance and music school of the country. In the beginning of her artistic career Preema acquired a numbers of acclaimed grants from artists residency programs and awarded grants to pursue her art practice worldwide to experience different culture, tradition and various art scene. Her thirst and curiosity for knowledge and leaning shaped her early age to a thinker, philosopher and leader. In 1987 she was the recipient of the best hand writing awardee (among 900 participant nationwide) by Bangladesh National Museum.[1]
