Letterbomb (new title)

Letterbomb is an American rock band formed and based in Hong Kong, in 2023, by former Lead Vocalist and current Guitarist Princeton Lee and Drummer and Director Tré Brandon, with several members joining afterward. Letterbomb is based on Green Day, with the name of the band being a tribute to the American Idiot track with the same name. Known for their covers of Green Day and other pop-punk and punk rock bands, such as blink-182, The Offspring, and Sum 41, Letterbomb is known for their continuation of the pop-punk legacy.

The band consists of Lead Vocalist Ryan Tan, Keyboardist and Secondary Vocalist Micah Kwok, Lead Guitarist Princeton Lee, Drummer Tré Brandon and Bassist Ryan Chew.

History

[edit]

2023-2024: Early Roots & Formation

[edit]

Before the full formation, friends and schoolmates Princeton Lee and Brandon Chen discussed about "jamming together" to many Green Day classics, such as Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Welcome to Paradise. In their High School music room, they invited Forbes Fong as a Drummer, with Brandon on bass originally.

The band then performed at their school's fair in December of 2024, covering Green Day's 2004 Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Afterward, Princeton and Brandon decided to recruit a Rhythm Guitarist, and they recruited Jax Leung and Ryan Chew, with Brandon moving onto drums, and Forbes now a secondary drummer, and secondary keyboardist.

2025-Present: AIA 2025, The Wanch & Other Works

[edit]

In January of 2025, Letterbomb was invited to the 2025 AIA Carnival, by Hong Kong based music education company, YRock. At AIA, Letterbomb performed American Idiot, Holiday, and their flagship cover song, Letterbomb.

In March later that year, Letterbomb played at The Wanch, a bar based in Wan Chai, Hong Kong. They performed Green Day's 2016 single, Revolution Radio, Green Day's 1991/1994 single Welcome to Paradise, and American Idiot.

Artistry & Influences

[edit]

Letterbomb has been self-described as "a tribute band to Green Day, Blink-182, and the punk legacy". Their instrumentation and covers have been described as "punk-rock", "pop-punk", and "true 1990s/2000s punk".

Letterbomb's Drummer has claimed that "Green Day was our biggest inspiration, and we truly love them", as well as crediting The Offspring, Sum 41 and Blink-182 as inspirations.

Controversies & Incidents

[edit]

In April of 2025, YRock informed Letterbomb that their bassist was now banned from any associations with YRock, due to alleged "inappropriate comments" made towards the Director, American Guitarist Chris Collins. During this, Collins stated to Ryan Chew: "I don't know what goes on your house that causes you to act like this", insulting his parents' parenting.

Politics & Political Stance

[edit]

Attributed to Blink-182 and Green Day, Letterbomb shares a libertarian ideology, similar to Mark Hoppus of Blink-182. A member of Letterbomb claimed, similarly to Mark Hoppus: "The government is supposed to help people, not control them, and stay back.", attributing to Libertarianism, individual liberty and freedom.

Letterbomb has been identified as "fiscally conservative, socially liberal", "libertarian" and "truly advocating for freedom".
